Demetrice Morley expected to return

Demetrice-Morley

According to an article this morning in the Times Free Press, Demetrice Morley has met the academic requirements to re-enroll for the spring semester at Tennessee. In order for Morley to be eligible to play next season however, the formal process will need to be completed. That’s expected to happen sometime next week.

Morley was dismissed from the team last January when he was declared academically ineligible.

This wasn’t the first time Morley faced academic troubles. He was rated by Rivals as a five-star player and the number two cornerback in the nation but grade issues in high school nearly kept him out of college. You may remember, he attended University High, the school that came under NCAA scrutiny after it was labeled by some as a ‘diploma mill’.

I’m not sure that many expected Morley to show the grit and determination to make it back to Tennessee. He could have taken the easy road, which would have been to pack up and head back home to Florida. Instead, he got a job and attended a local community college in an effort to raise his grade point average above the 2.0 University minimum. It appears he has done just that.

It’s expected that Morley could play a prominent role in Tennessee’s defense next season. As a sophomore in 2006, he played in 13 games and recorded 51 total tackles including 6 tackles for a loss.
