Rocky Top League Championship Game is set

The championship game of the 2008 Pilot Rocky Top League appears to be all set and it looks to be a great one. Ray’s ESG and HT Group will square off Wednesday night in a rematch of the June 18 thriller that ended in a 131-128 overtime win for HT Group.

That game was an epic battle between Tennessee’s Bobby Maze (47 points) and ETSU sharpshooter Courtney Pigram (45 points). Maze may have finished with more points but it was Pigram who had the last word as he sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to give his team the overtime victory.

Tyler Smith is likely the league’s MVP and you can bet he will have something to say about Wednesday’s championship game. With a perfect 6-0 record on the season and having won the first matchup, most would consider HT Group the favorite to bring home the championship.

As for Ray’s ESG, Scotty Hopson is starting to come into his own the last couple of games and Brian Williams has been very effective in the paint. I don’t believe Courtney Pigram will be able to match his super-human performance from the first game and in the end Tyler Smith won’t quite have enough help to pull off the victory.

Regardless of the outcome, it should be a great one to watch.

Scores of interest from Monday night: Maze 37, Hopson 34, Tyler Smith 34, Tabb 24, West 19, Jurick 9
