USC suspends frosh Baxter for opener - NCAA Football - SI.com

kiffin has suspended on USC's freshman running back for the first game at Hawaii. kiffin says "this is an extremely strong message, a very severe punishment". however, he wont say what the punishment was for besides being a violation of team rules.

IMO for a coach to call his own punishment severe comes off as arrogantly trying to strengthen his reputation as strict, especially since he didnt even say what the kid did wrong. for instance, it would be a severe punishment if the kid was late to a meeting, but it could be a slap on the wrist for some things.

what do you think?

I like your analysis. EVERYTHING that slug does/says is an attempt to make himself look good.

Maybe the kid is being punished for being like his coach. Spewing untruths (about the texts that he did not receive). In this case, that made monte's kid look bad(what he is). Funny considering many assumed the slug was behind that story in the first pace.

For any team, I am always skeptical of suspensions of players in games that the team will win regardless.

If Kiffin were still at UT people on the board would be lining up to fellate him for "Drawing a hard line" with the kids.

non story.

Kiffin has got his work cut out for him, it's gonna be a tough task keeping the players from getting distracted. No postseason & the nightlife in L.A. will lead many men astray I predict.

Not taking up for Kiffin, but the kid misses an all expense paid trip to Hawaii. That sucks. Depending on what he did, Kiffin may not be able to publicly say what he did. Failed drug tests can't be stated as the reason, thus the ambiguous "team rules" that's thrown around.

That being said, there's no reason to brag about how "severe" the punishment is.

And they'd be wrong. Kiffin has done a lot to destroy his credibility in the last year. Surely you noticed... I also don't remember many UT fans who would deny that Kiffin was an arrogant punk while at UT. It added some life to the program. It doesn't mean he is never wrong. He is just patting himself on the back and trying to sow the seeds of the idea that he has his program under control. It doesn't make it true.

maybe he is being punished for not being ready to play.
or being late to pick Kif up to give him a ride.

If he was a valuable player that wasn't a freshman that wasn't a 6th string that didn't take a visit to a rival school during recruiting...............

He might get to get leid in Hawaii.

Which seems like a pretty smart move given their situation at USC. Not sure why this is noteworthy.

He got caught sneaking in past curfew. I know a couple guys who confirmed this.

Not sure if something else also.

I think that every time Kiffin farts, someone is going to start a thread about it on Volnation.
