Thought this could use its own thread.

Can UF have CUM and staff remain to coach the bowl game, but have the new staff out contacting recruits? Seems like that violates lots of important rules?

Gatorsports articles.

With new Florida coach Will Muschamp hitting the recruiting trail on a dead sprint, things went from gloomy for the Gators’ 2011 class to chipper in a matter of days. Muschamp has been in contact with most of Florida’s committed players and uncommitted targets since taking the job Saturday

Florida’s biggest recruiting news in the last week didn’t come in the form of a commitment, it came in a reaffirmation. The Palm Beach Post first reported Sunday that Oviedo Hagerty quarterback Jeff Driskel is still committed to Florida after speaking with new coach Will Muschamp.

Muschamp is already on the road recruiting for Florida, and it would make sense for Muschamp to make the rounds in Texas for Florida's 2011 recruiting class.

Don't think UF can get away with still having CUM and staff coach the bowl game and have a whole additional staff recruiting? :eek:hmy::eek:hmy:

You sure do love writing about the gators huh?

They are TN's biggest rival in the East. This is a big development as these coaching changes at rival schools have huge implications on the balance of power in the SEC.

Plus I don't see how they can have two HC's at once.

Muscamp can recruit because of the openings of Austin and Dan Mac...the only thing that he must limit is in-home visit because of Meyer. they have to keep track of those because it could result in a violation....Rich Rod and Mark Richt both were recruiting before they were officially HC. Also, NCAA changed the how coach in waiting are able to recruit because of WM and Jimbo so their team at the time removed the title to get around the NCAA rule.

you need to find said rules before you start implying it violates some

Seems shady to me. CWM may already have VIOLATIONS in his first week at UF!!!!

I said "it seems like" Thats why I am asking for an explination. The first sentence of the OP starts with the questions "can" he do this.. . .

Nothing wrong with that post.

He did state "seem" and end the sentence with a question mark. Seems like he was asking for clarification and not implying.

The limit might be on the total number of coaches on staff at one time. But, even then, someone on Urban's staff would have to already be out the door for Muschamp to be working.

I know there is a rule prohibiting coaches in waiting from recruiting as a general staff member if there is another head coach. And of course there are strict rules on the number of coaches that can be on a team at any given time.

Not that I disagree as I think the situation is shady, however, I think the NCAA has their eye on it. I am sure they are in the right as to not risk any violation. I do not think that CWM is the right fit for FL but I can assure you he is no Kiff.

Again he's not the "coach in waiting" he's a member of the coaching staff until he's officially HC after the bowl game.... UF now has another position open with Austin leaving for Tx today so another coach can come in also....The new staff wouldn't be able to recruit until position open up.....Chris Nee, Mike L and Justin Well at rivals and 247 have researched the topic because of fans.

No one could be that careless. Just still doesn't seem right to allow CUM to stay and prepare the team for the bowl, while you have another guy out representing him self as the HC of the team to recruits and not having to invest time coaching the team like other HC's at other teams.

So i guess Im not the only one that was curious about this since it does seem so shady?

I'm curious also, what exactly are the limitations? Its one thing for the new HC to sit in an office and call the recruits to let them know he's taken the job and answer their questions. But if he's out on the road actively recruiting while the rest of the coaches are balancing their time between coaching and recruiting then I think that gives him an unfair advantage.

I agree with this.

Also, I heard CWM say that he wants CUM at practices, in the weight room and at the complex often next season to help coach the team. That doesn't seem right either? Can CUM just come around UF after he retires whenever he wants and help the coaching staff coach the team since there is a limit on the number of coaches at each school?

To me that was just a message to the players that CUM recruited, allowing him to keep his word that he would be their "coach" forever.

I don't have an issue with him being invited to hang around, after all he would be a private citizen. In fact, knowing a little about leadership, I like it because it is decidely ineffective for a new leader to allow the old one to have any real influence. The new guy has to be in charge completely and the staff and players have to know they can't appeal his decisions to the retired leader. So, in my view, a little uncertainty at the top helps us every September!

I don't find this situation nearly as confusing as West Virginia with Stewart and Holgerson acting as Head Coach
at odds for an entire year.

Good point. I can't wait till that match up in September. If the game was in knoxville I'd like TN's chances, but i still think TN will have a shot at an upset.
