How many of the winners in those other games you mentioned were 1-8 in their conference? Your comparison of UVA to Villanova or West Virginia just buttresses my opinion of you.

It's college basketball, hate. You more than anyone should know this stuff happens all the time. It was a bad loss for Clemson, no doubt, but it was not a surprising result. Stuff happens all the time -- every year. It doesn't really tell us much unless we see a trend. What trends do you see with this Clemson team? I don't see any yet, but maybe I'm missing something. I'd like to hear your analysis, not smack talk.

Let's see. That's now a recent home loss to a decent but not excellent Florida State team and a defeat to an awful Virginia team in the last couple of weeks. Add that to the weight of recent late season collapses and you've got a trend.

If "hyping" Clemson means they've proven themselves moreso than Tennessee has at this point, then count me in that group.

I can't and won't pretend to predict that they'll "collapse" like previous seasons, partly b/c the exact same players from previous seasons aren't playing this season, but mostly b/c that would be silly and naive of me to do.

Yeah, it's real silly and naive to expect the inevitable. Silly and naive is sitting around thinking a plowhorse is going to win the Kentucky Derby. Clemson is, as usual, pretty much a sham. They get a couple of good regular season wins and the ACC lemmings start singing their praises. Then, when it comes time to accomplish something of note, the Tigers will perform as well as Britney Spears taking a doctrate level physics exam.

Clemson = That team that looks like a juggernaut to start the year, only to finish in shambles. I especially remember 2 years ago. What was it, 16-0 or 18-0 to start the year, only to miss the NCAA Tournament.

Why do they massively collapse every year?

the patented hatvol simile:

compare team's or player's supposed shameful performance to (insert vapid pop star)'s (choose 1) intellectual shortcomings, 2) lascivious escapades, or 3) fall from grace.

Let's compare what Clemson did in its 4 games prior to its loss at Virginia to what Tennessee did in its 4 games prior to losing at Auburn:

Clemson:
-beat Virginia Tech (unranked) on road
-beat Duke (ranked top 5 at time) at home (Duke's worst loss in some 18 yrs)
-lost at home to (then-ranked) FSU
-beat BC (unranked) on road

Tennessee:
-lost at home to Memphis (ranked)
-lost at home to LSU (unranked)
-beat Florida (unranked) at home
-beat Arkansas (unranked and with 1 SEC conference win) on road

If Clemson's trend = collapse, what does Tennessee's equal? Surely our stellar late-season performances in recent years would supersede the data above.

LSU is the current conference leader. Not a bad loss, if there is such a thing.

If you want to try and pass off FSU as better than LSU, have at it. Also, Duke looked great today. The fact they were ever in the Top 5 further exhibits the value of the polls.

Let's just see where everyone is when the final bell rings. You came on here pimping Wake and Clemson. I told you when it mattered, they'd be totally irrelevant. I stand by it. Just because you lack the confidence in your own analytical skills to make a defintive prediction doesn't mean everyone else does.

"You came on here" - what does that mean? I've been here.

"Pimping Wake and Clemson" - what? I stated that I thought both had outperformed UT to this point and would be ahead of them if UT were in the ACC. I stand by that.

BTW, I don't care to try to predict the future. What's the point? I would rather appreciate what's going on in front of me.

Hat, I didn't see you answer this question in your multiple replies to the post.
