Pretty sure that’s what I said…but as an SEC program it’s should be the first order of business.

Could we please step back and try and win the conference first? It’s been awhile, and if we finally do it we’ll be in the conversation for bigger things. Seems to me we are under-valuing the order of things.

Respectfully, the SEC landscape of coaches has been much more difficult over the last 10-15 years than it was in Fulmers heyday. The rest we can agree to disagree on. Much of this is subjective.

How many times did he beat Spurrier exactly? And that was when Spurrier was the cream of the crop. We’re not likely to agree, but the facts remain….when SEC coaching got better Phil was no longer at the top of the conference heap.

I don’t disagree…except that Saban beat the Smarts, Spurriers, Miles etc as well. Honestly, the SEC prior to the ESPN money, was a different conference. The dominance really came about as a result of that initial contract, and the hiring spree that it started.

Fulmer would get boatraced in the modern game, a fact that became apparent after 1998. His decline against top opponents after the Championship was rapid and severe. He got right against the Jerry DiNardo’s, Brad Scott’s, and Mike Shula’s of the SEC…but when facing a good X & O’s coach it was a...

He gets extra credit in my book for ‘98. But when you analyze his career here in the stark daylight, he left a lot on the table, and oversaw a precipitous decline of the program….not once, but twice. That leaves his legacy, to me at least, in question. The 90’s should have seen several more...

NIL has defanged them significantly. This ankle-biting stunt is meant to shore up any relevance they think they may have. The 7 state lawsuit against them will officially neuter them . I don’t know what it looks like afterward, but their days are numbered as a enforcement agency.

I don’t disagree, and I don’t intend to question the quality of coach that DeBoer is. His record is stellar, though limited at this level. My real contention is that the SEC meatgrinder, especially with the new 8 game schedule will be something new to him. Couple that with his “outsider”...

My feeling is that anyone they hired immediately after Saban would ultimately fail in three years. The standard is too high, the expectations of the fan base too unrealistic. The fact that the coach is a west coast guy new to the pressures and realities of big time SEC football likely make this...
