Next two games are Friday 10PM and then at (technically Saturday) 12:30AM EST. If we win either, we're guaranteed into the bracket portion.
If we lose both, then Chile's vs. Mexico @3AM will decide whether Chile or the US gets in. (unless Philippines beats both Mexico and Spain AND scores 9+...
Tight game so far, but USA will be in the bonus for the last 4 and a half minutes, and this Philippine team has been foul-happy
edit: Double-bonus now. 2 FTs and possession for every foul.
It seems like points scored is the primary tiebreaker between teams with the same # of wins, so it may end up mattering for bracket seeding.
Game 2 @ 12:55AM EST will be on a new session,
vs. Philippines, who lost 17-19 in their first game vs. Chile.
I feel like the balance is a bit too cooked in the direction of perimeter shots with the 2/1 ratio, tho. Perimeter shot worth relatively 1.34x more, but is paint offense 1.34x easier...? Perhaps it is. (either way, mid-range shots go from being bad in 5x5 to being awful here, being only worth 1...
It's worth the lower injury rate. Kickoffs are the highest per-play injury rate in the sport, all for a play that is a touchback most of the time. If we go away from this kickoff, it should be going to getting rid of the kickoff entirely.
She also took those "less than 7 second" shots in the first three quarters with 20 on the possession clock. Surrounded with a better roster, she'll need to grow out of that to elevate the offense.
And just, in general, to stop shooting long 2s! Shoot 3s instead!
