His father knew it. He feared the mask would fall off and people would realize that Nico's talent wasn't progressing in the college game to the point that it should - probably b/c of Nico's interest in the game. So,....looking out for his family's financial interests, he pressured UT to give...
Yes, I remember him only playing hard/with emotion his freshman and sophomore year against South Carolina. His junior year,... he balled out.... for a contract. The part in bold above is making my point. If you take a player whose household income is =< $80k, and you throw $300k at them to...
Most of us have seen really good college players who get drafted simply lose motivation once drafted and get the big dollars (Albert Haynesworth anyone....?) How long does it take for that same phenomena to take place from high school to college when said college player is going to get 20-50X...
Window was closing.
IMHO, Big Nico saw that his son's HS talents were not progressing to the college level as assumed. He was afraid Lil Nico would get benched/recruited over and decided to force UT to pay up way ahead of schedule ie. "get the money while the money is good". It backfired...
The college football gods better be very careful not to turn CFB fandom's passion into a pastime. This very funny clip simply illustrates how it could happen. I don't like the modern era of CFB.
Best RB in the nation running behind a sucky OL is going to struggle bigly. An average RB running behind a great OL tend to look very good if not better.
Without him getting injured, I hope he brings the QB scramble/run into serious SEC games to keep the LBs honest. Pulls a Shuler, runs up/pulls up/throws over their head to a TE streaking across the middle.
I think I know what he means. He's saying that we are 2 weeks out from the first game and there has been no "news" of any of the 3 "breaking out" (that I'm aware). CJH is pretty good with getting RBs carries/yards - so if he has to work with a committee I'm sure he knows what to do...
Remember the scene in "Money Ball" where old-timers were judging potential baseball players by their stats and "look"? Very subjective process - but was a culmination of collective, intelligent thought. While there is such a thing as "group think" (which is often dangerous - reference "Bay of...
What about Montana throwing to "Rocket" Ismael? Dude was scary fast and I saw him play in Neyland in one of the best games ever even though UT lost at the very end.
I've been saying since J Witten that we need to utilize the TE more at UT. An unsung hero if you throw to them 3-5 times a game in certain circumstances.
