Scarface remake gets the green light

Great, let's see how much Hollywood can spend to screw up another classic...

Del Toro may be too old for the part, so my vote goes to Javier Bardem.

I agree the original is classic.

You have to admit the remake they did in the 80's with Al Pacino was good though. One of my favorite remakes.

Too easy. He can do anything.

I'm surprised Daniel Day Lewis beat him out for the Abe Lincoln role :-D

It was. Hopefully the new one won't suck.

The only successful remake of a remake I've seen was The Thing.

if you're going to remake a movie that doesn't need to be remade, why not go in a completely different direction?

although it would be interesting to see how Tony Montana would respond to a bunch of OWS dirtbags holding up his daily commute...

Because he's Scarface.

It'd be easier to make the story about a 60 year old then it'd be for another actor to recreate the character.

considering nearly every person on earth knows that Tony Montana died in the end of the original, bringing back Pacino to reprise the role would be dumb

Need a versatile actor in age range 25-39. Pacino was almost too old for the role in 83' much less 2011.

I'm not suggesting a reprise. I'm saying do the same story over, but instead of making it a 20-something, make it a 60-something.

It's dumb to remake Scarface any way you wanna look at it. It's too soon, still, IMO.

Pacino is 71, even if you try to re-tell the same story, no one is going to buy into the notion of a Cuban drug lord trolling the AARP circuit.
