ETSU Football Coming To Bristol Too

This game isn't about gate revenue, it's about BMS supporting ETSU and ETSU football. It's a special opportunity for the kids to play in BMS. ETSU will still be playing off campus this season and the field is going to be there as it's a week after the UT game and they might as well host another game. Got zero to do with money.

I'd say you're right & that's a good analogy.

The only real rationale I can think of for this is that BMS thinks they can sell the tickets for virtually $0 and make money off the concessions. Seriously, if they sell the tickets for $10, I'm betting they'll get more than 10,000. Probably very little in the way of additional fixed costs (basically the electricity for the game and not much else).

Still seems kind of silly and like a very weird atmosphere for a football game, but they probably won't lose money.

Didn't you not see the post a couple above yours here? http://www.volnation.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12364247&postcount=26

I think he has it more right than anybody that's posted about this topic.

It's an interesting venue and the event is something they can sell to recruits. Perhaps they can even get it on TV or ESPN3 or something and get some revenue from that. I cannot imagine the atmosphere being any better at Science Hill HS, where they currently play. The new stadium will certainly help their program grow. And judging by them losing to DIII Maryville College, they need all the help they can get.

It will be televised at least by ESPN3. ETSU is already using the game to help recruit and they have been bringing recruits to the track. It's an impressive venue. ETSU and BMS have an academic partnership in the way of a motorsports management program. This is all about BMS being a good community steward. Again, it's got nothing to do with the almighty dollar. BMS isn't stupid enough to think that ETSU and WCU is going to bring a national audience.

I think there's a good chance(I'd say 70%+) that this game gets on regular ESPN TV programming & not just ESPN3 online. Maybe ESPNU or ESPN News but doubtfully ESPN or ESPN2.

The posters are right in that this event has zero to do with money. It's about recruiting, a thinking-big mentality, and trying to quickly grow a brand new program. It's also about publicity and building the ETSU brand. Within a day of the announcement, ETSU and Western Carolina were prominently featured in the national discussion on sites like ESPN, Fox Sports, Nascar.com, Jayski, and all over social media.

Also, given that UT vs. VT will break the record for I-A (FBS) attendance, why not use the BMS marketing and sales machine to try and break the I-AA record the very next weekend? Or at the very least break the Southern Conference record.

I also believe the speedway may be posturing itself for a bid to host a bowl game.
