Most wide receivers coaches at the major college level don’t practice in cleats.

Then again, most college wide receivers coaches weren’t so recently major college wide receivers themselves.

Kevin Beard was, though.

The Vols now have an impressive coaching staff, let's hope it translates to improved play on the field...:good!:

But can they beat Vanderbilt?
Beating Vandy used to be a joke, but it's no longer a joke for Butch Jones Vols

Has to beat Vandy this year, or he will lose a lot more fan support.

Vandy will not beat us this year. Cunningham was their defense last year and our defense was so depleted by injury that we got ran over the last three or four games of the season. Barnett and Vereen were our biggest losses on defense (Cuz Sutton didn't play 90% of last year) and I believe Kongbo & Phillips will fit in nicely at DE with KMac & hopefully Tuttle at DT. Our O should flow smoothly if JG gets the playbook/reads down & takes care of the ball. 9-3 is my prediction, with losses to bama, LSU & either Ga or fla.

In before the last paragraph brings out the "Butch is a control freak and his coaches are puppets" crowd.

Why is it some of you on here always bring up the same complaint? Why not bring up beating Florida or Georgia? If we had been anywhere close to having a full team when playing Vandy, then you have a complaint..

Because losing to Vandy (and SCar) defined the 2016 season and left us short of our goal of playing in the SECCG. Losing those two awful games negated the great wins vs Georgia and Florida and left us on the outside looking in.

Also, we were very close to having a full team when playing Vandy. We were only missing one game 1 starter (Hurd) on offense and three game 1 starters (OBrien, JRM, TKJr) on defense. So, 19 of 22 (86%) starters were on the field vs Vandy.....that's beyond "very close to having a full team". The "complaint" is legit.

Butch is the first head coach since Neyland to lose to Vanderbilt twice.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Would everyone rather beat Vandy and USCe and lose to Florida and Georgia??? A loss is a loss, is a loss. We still would have the same SEC record and no Sugar Bowl.

You're missing the point entirely.

It's not ok to beat Florida and Georgia and then get beat by South Carolina and Vandy.

Nothing about that is ok.

Losing to Florida and Georgia isn't ok either.

No Tuttle or Kmac. We ran with ends at DT, loaded up to stop Webb and they tossed the ball all over the yard on us.

Also Kirkland and Sutton were shells of themselves coming off of injuries. Sutton was a step or two slow and gave up several completions. Kirkland just recently said he was back to 100%. He was going to be our best LB last year and maybe all SEC before he got hurt at the BoB.

Our team was a shell of itself by the time we went to Nashville.

Even if what you said is true, which I don't believe it is, should it have matters vs a 5-6 Vandy team?

We had Dobbs, Kelly, Kamara, Malone, JJ, Byrd, Wolf, Croom, Thomas, Wiseman, Robertson, Kendrick, Richmond, among others, available on offense.

We had Barnett, Vereen, Kongbo, Lewis, Mixon, Phillips, Vickers, DKJr, McDowell, Jumper, Sutton, Moseley, Abernathy, Griffin, Warrior, among others, available on defense.

And again, I ask, should it even have mattered that we weren't quite a 100% strength vs a bad Vandy team? Of course it shouldn't have.

Also, what team in the SEC was at 100% the 13th week of the season last year or really any year? How many players was a severely outmatched Vandy team missing when they played us?

Reading the same complaints in everyour thread makes VN a worst site for everybody. Nobody enjoys the fact that last year was lackluster due to 2 losses to bad teams. Doesn't it get old to keep dwelling on the same thing half a year? Not every conversation has to be about it.
