We've heard this before. Last summer, Tennessee was a trendy SEC Championship pick and plenty of sportswriters considered them a threat to make the College Football Playoff. For those who have forgotten what happened last fall, let me remind you.
The Vols blew leads in four of their first seven games, including excruciating last-minute losses against Florida and Alabama. Tennessee's only quality win came at home over Georgia, when the Bulldogs' star running back was injured on the first play. And as I'm sure you Gamecock fans all remember, the Vols were one Jerell Adams fumble away from trailing against South Carolina late in the fourth quarter at Neyland Stadium.
I get it. Tennessee returns nearly its entire starting lineup. But let's not forget that it's the same lineup that blew those four leads last season while failing to meet expectations again.

Everyone likes to make bold predictions, and maybe that's why teams like Tennessee and USC are consistently ranked high in the preseason before their mediocre play drops them out of the rankings. The Vols have talent; they really do. But to expect a team that was so bad at holding leads last season to overcome somewhat of a lack of an offensive identity and make it through the gantlet in October to finish as a top 10 team is just absurd.
It's time to stop doing this every year.

I love how being the dark horse pick means that we underachieve when we fail to overachieve. We finished last year pretty much exactly where we were picked to, with a lot of predictions getting it right but flipping the UGA UF games.

USC should go back to handwringing about their Vandy opener because as much as despise Vandy and think they suck, they're going to give the gamecocks all they can handle and maybe more.

Candy will beat USC.

Let em talk. They are gonna be worse than last yr. a roster with no talent loses Pharoh Cooper, Jerrell Adams, Brandon Wilds, a couple OL, a few defenders on an already trash defense. They are headed for an awful yr again. Let em talk for now before they lose to Vandy Thursday.

I visit Cockytalk every once in a awhile but don't post or anything. That is a fanbase in total denial. They really think Muschump will do better for them than he did for UF. I honestly think they go 1-7 in the sec and the 1 is only because just about nobody is as screwed as Mizzou at this point.

I make it a habit to root against Vandy in everything including Tiddly Winks, but I hope they embarrass Muschamp

Muschamp has been overrated for years.

And he still outcoached us.

It's sad that Muschamp had to sink to his true level before we could start tearing him a new one on an annual basis. Gamecocks go from Spurrier to Muschamp. That's a long damn drop. Butch and Team 120 better start gettin' 'er done.

Hard to disagree with this guy's opinion.. Especially as a gamecock. I encourage vol fans to pull the reins back a bit and temper expectations. This could end up a heartbreak season if things do not work out. Butch Jones has yet to beat Florida or Alabama and he is entering season 4. Butch Jones has much to prove, and has no means arrived to the level of a "successful" SEC head coach. Perhaps that reality will change after this season.

I think it's possible that Radio is a better HC than 'Chump. Guess we'll find out later this year. Both admittedly were accomplished DC's. Chump backed into some success at FLA but simply couldn't get out of his own way. Radio never had that level of player talent.

It actually might be a game worth watching. Even though most likely it will mean absolutely nothing outside of those two fan bases.

Edit: oh and Vuck Fandy

So let me see if I understand this correctly..

Because of the fact that we almost beat teams that went to the playoffs last year..and we bring back pretty much our entire roster, that is an argument for why we are over rated?

Can someone explain that logic to me?

Better to have a program where expectations are high and have periods of heartbreak due to one idiot coach than to have one successful coach in a century that leaves you mid season.
