| The World of Recruiting Just read an article in which Coach Scott talks about recruiting and the work involved. I was very impressed by the sheer effort that these guys produce in an effort to reach these kids. In one day he visited Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and hit Florida.
In one stretch he had 22 hotel nights in 28 days. Then he goes on to say, "We're not tired, so we're not looking for any rest. We just want to put together the best group of guys that we can to help us to get done what everybody wants to get done."
I just want to tip my hat to all the Vol coaches that beat the bushes, spending days away from their families, and they do it all to put a winner on the field for the University and the fans.

| Clawson and Scott are looking very impressive for their first year in the bigs. I have a feeling next year, the recent trend of good year/bad year recruiting wise will end.

| Im just impressed by their effort. kind of makes Chief's unwillingness to go in the road look sad.

Actually they do it to make more money and move up in their chosen profession. |

They arent going to get paid more because they recruit more. They recruit more because this is the bigs and its required from the start. |

They are recruiting hard to make a name for themself. The result will be wins of course, but that is just the byproduct. THE reason they do it is money and job growth, not to make you happy. |

| Well said Rex. We often don't hear about these kinds of things. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that we don't know about. |

| allvol123, I doubt very seriously those guys are motivated by money all the time. Yes most of them are career motivated to one extent or another but like most any other profession the truly great ones do it for the love of it.
Look at Clawson's bio when you get a chance. He continued to do it when success seemed a long ways off... when he was getting paid basically nothing he chose to stay in coaching because he loved it.
Don't be so cynical. Maybe you are mercenary in everything YOU do but most of us aren't. |

| Believe it or not allvol123, some people strive for excellence without any regard for monetary reward. |

As hard as it is to believe, there are actually people out there who are competitive and want to WIN! Did it ever occur to you that the reason they recruit hard is because they want to put a winner on the field every Saturday and compete for championships, and with that success, the money and promotion is a byproduct? |

Nice perspective. Why is it labeled cynical to say someone likes to get raises and promotions. Silly cynical people.
His bio includes taking a higher paying and more prominent job in the past 6 months. If it was for the university and fans, he'd still be at Richmond. |

Of course they want to win, that means promotions and money. If it were purely about winning, he could have stayed at Richmond. |

My point is that very few people actually think about these things moment by moment and achieve any great level of success. It is the ones who just strive for excellence for the joy of it that often make more money and move up.
Not everyone is motivated simply by money and promotion. Some do it because they love it.
Clawson for instance is a very intelligent man. He could have been as successful, faster in some other line of work. He loves football. |

As I said, if he did it purely out of love, he could coach a HS team. |
