This game should happen eventually. I live in Bristol and they have been trying for years to get the two teams to play at Bristol Motor Speedway. They should play every other year and make it a home/away game for both teams. BMS is half way between the schools. Can you imagine going to a game with 180,000 in attendance.

How would the seating work out? I would think that there would be some pretty bad seats. I know it is a money thing, but I would much rather see them play a home and home. Bristol is for races, not football games.

I cant imagine the seating would be that great, and I doubt they would get 180000 folks to buy tickets. Id love to see it, but really not at BMS.

We've been down this road before, more than once. I once drew a to-scale diagram of the field in the middle of the racetrack, and it looks like "bad" seats would be an understatement.

That is what I was thinking. I knew that the field would be very small compared to the size of the rest of the facility. You would probably be sitting far enough away from the field to fit in a couple of more football fields.

it will never happen. the track infield is being renovated and there is not enough revenue to make it worthwhile

Yep, every year this topic comes and goes and nothing happens.

Yeah, I think there was a window on this possibly happening and it's now passed.

If UT and VT are wanting to play each other they why don't we set-up a home and home with each other. I would much rather see us play VT in a home and home than us playing Cal and teams like that.

I remember that, and the poor quality of the seats is nothing compared to the lousy TVcamera angles that there would be.

Besides, if you've spent money on a nice chair back seat and parking pass at Neyland, why would you wanna give that axtra home game away? And, for that matter, who would be the home team? Home team gets TV rights and I'm betting neither would give that up.

Yeah, I think there was a window on this possibly happening and it's now passed.
When the owner up there tossed out a ridiculous amount of money,(was it 8mil?) everyone's ears perked up. But there was no way he could offer that without TV rights and, as I said above, niether school is giving those up....

I'm so tired of hearing about this.

ditto.

This has gone beyond beating a dead horse. We are now beating already-processed glue. Please, trust the guy with two degrees in Sport Management...

This will NEVER happen.
-It doesn't matter that ALL of the seats would be horrible.
-It doesn't matter how you break down the massive costs.
-It doesn't matter that Bristol doesn't have enough hotels for everyone
-It doesn't matter the game is pointless from a recruiting standpoint (Cal games expose us to West Coast Talent)
-It doesn't matter that there are buildings in the infield that would prevent a field from being put down.
-It doesn't even matter that both teams would lose home-game revenue.

Even though all those are great arguments not to play the game...
-What does matter is that Bruton can't get the TV revenue to back the deal because of the conferences' TV contracts.

If Bruton can't make money off it, it won't happen.

End of story.

So what are you saying? It's not going to happen? What am I supposed to do with the telescope I was going to use to see the game?

I forgot the exact measurements, but wouldn't it look roughly like this?

I like the pic of the football field in comparison to the track. That tells a lot. Its tough to comprehend the size of that place, even when you are there. Basically, Neyland Stadium would fit inside the seating bowl there, so the first row of track seats would be further from the field than the last row of the upper deck of Neyland Stadium.

I wonder if they would set up seating in the infield or if it would just be the normal seating? Actually it doesn't really matter becasue the whole idea sucks.

Home/home with VT sounds attractive, but I think we get more mileage (no pun intended) out of our arrangements with the PAC 10 teams. I believe that exposure helps the west coast recruiting; much more so than a VT game would.

PLUS GIVES SEC A CHANCE TO EXPOSE THE WEAK PAC 10!

Well, I don't have a comfy seatback chair or a parking pass, but I do have a season ticket & am not willing to give up a home game to go to watch a game in Bristol (and I could walk to the track from relative's house). And while it's true that it won't happen if Bruton Smith can't make $, it's my understanding that Mike Hamilton isn't the least bit interested anyways.
