Love that kind of stuff. Love the fact that when you see us play, we rarely go into a dead zone or extended possessions without what appears to be a plan. Everyone has offensive flat spots, but we have done well to reduce them compared to most.

All the top teams rely on the 3-point shot, TN does not. This just shows how effective this offense has become. This should carry TN deep into the tournament.

Well, yes I agree with that. It gives us a much higher probability. It's next to impossible for a team to go 6 straight on such a 3pt hot streak and win it, or even go real deep.

OTOH, those 3 point shooting teams gone wild can manifest against you in an ugly way in the tourney. In one 40 minute flurry you can be sent home packing. :-\ That's what is so unpredictable about the game w 3pt shot these days.

It's great when you're Loyola of Chicago with nothing to lose each game, bc it gives you a shot. It can be devastating for a top seed with a better team that would win 4:5 theoretical matchups.

I thought this was a very informative and well written article on the intricacies of the basketball team

How Rick Barnes oversaw Tennessee's basketball renaissance

Yes, the late Don Meyer (Lipscomb), one of the early "inventors" of the motion offense, used to say "cutter reads the defense, screener reads the cutter." Meaning, depending on how the defender plays the screen (slide behind, going over top, switching, etc.), the cutter can "pop out," "fade," "basket cut," or "curl." I like the fact our kids run a lot of curl cuts. If the cutter does anything other than a pop out, the screener will have to "replace himself" so that the ball can be reversed. We do a great job of reversing the ball, which helps break down the defense. On a side note, wasn't Coach Barnes the originator of the Clemson "Flex" offense back in the 80's? Pearl ran a simpler version of it back when he first got the Tennessee job.

Kentucky doesn’t either. That will perhaps the be the key to beating them. Guard Herro on the perimeter and keep the rest of them out of the paint, and you should beat them.
