“The offer was out of the blue. (Tuesday) morning I gave Coach Osovet a call and he offered me,” said Payne, who’s ranked by 247Sports as the No. 30 tight end in the 2022 class and the No. 2 junior from the state of West Virginia.

“I was really shocked and happy because the SEC is a really good conference, and it feels good that they think I can play at that level.”

“He just said he has watched a bunch of film on other guys and said I was one of the best, so that’s why he offered me,” Payne said, recalling his conversation with Osovet.

“I know they’re doing really good things with their program, and it shows by their record last year, and Peyton Manning went there,” Payne said.
