Ball control

been having discussions about turnovers back to the Holly days as well. Worst thing about watching these girls is the fact that they would be undefeated had they taken care of the ball. And would have won a few more games last season.

I agree that the LVs should be undefeated but for the turnovers and also poor free throw shooting in the Stanford game. Learn from these two losses and go get that SEC regular season championship. GBO.

A lot of the TO problem comes with spacing. Because the defense against the ladies can be shoehorned into the paint, the level of risk goes up dramatically trying to go into the paint. At some point good three point shooting has to be a priority at Tennessee to relieve the pressure in the middle. My God, Tess has shown some worth, at this point she deserves to come off a screen for a shot at a 3.

tun overs are the primary reason we have lost two games this year. Why not try to get some action on correcting the biggest problem we have?

Don't get your hopes up. It's year three for Kellie, we're at the end of January, and turnovers are STILL as much of an issue (if not more so) than when she first took over. Her teams have never valued the ball, at all, and whatever she has tried through recruiting or coaching has done nothing to mitigate the problem.

You're either coaching it, or you're allowing it to happen...

I think it comes to a point where you have to say that who we have playing at the positions are never going to be great at preventing turnovers. You can practice all you want but players making decisions in the actual game are still the actions that will determine turnovers. I've come to the determination that were never going to get much better in this area with the players we have now so we have to limit them as much as we can and get on the boards and rebound, win second chance points. This is the way we've been winning all year so probably will have to be the way we win going forward.

Turnovers will be the dissent of the team if KH doesn't get it to stop, now.
One will seldom win close games against good teams if they don win the turnover to assist game. The teams who can win this ratio almost always wins the game. Tennessee's ability to win this ration has not been very good for the last 6-8 years. Watching the games over the years, showed me that controlled chaos wins because your team is playing more aggressively than your opposition but still in control of your fouls and turnovers. We have a lot of turnovers because we usually have a lot of lazy passes. This is true for both the mens and women's teams.

The turnover differential was what caused our defeat in this game. 22 turnovers while only forcing them into 9. You can get by with high turnovers if you are also forcing the other team into a similar high total. When your differential is 13 like in this game and you don't reduce any of that advantage with offensive rebounding then your going to lose most of the time. Their 13 more shots on goal, even though they only shot 39 percent for the game while we shot 43 percent was just to much to overcome. In order to do so with that type of turnover differential we need to shoot over 50 percent. Fairly easy to win if your more talented and you do what your supposed to do both offensively and defensively. This game was similar to the road game at Vandy when they forced us into a high turnover differential as well. The reason we won is because they couldn't shoot the ball shooting in the 20's while we shot close to 45 percent. This is going to continue to bite us if we don't get better forcing turnovers and extending the offensive rebounding numbers advantage. I think were always going to be a 15 plus turnover team on offense so we have to make that up by forcing the other team into mistakes and beating them on the offensive boards.

As much hype as Tennessee's defense gets for limiting opponents' shooting, they're actually poor at forcing turnovers -- 283rd in the country. Surprising and disappointing given how much size and length is on the roster...

I know and that is a disturbing stat we need to force more because we commit so many ourselves.

They've been turning the ball over at the same rate all season, and yet they are 18-2.

Miles is undersized, and so is Walker. Neither of them are long, and Walker is not particularly quick. Same with Darby. The team relies on blocked shots and defensive rebounds off of missed FGAs to get the ball back. And it's working. There's nothing disappointing about it if you are ranked in the top 5 in the country.
