Astros first-rounder Drew Gilbert had to be carted off the field Saturday after a collision in the outfield during the sixth inning of Low-A Fayetteville’s game against the Rangers’ affiliate. Gilbert was diagnosed with a forearm contusion and held out of Sunday’s series finale. He has not been placed on the injured list.
• In another organization, Gilbert’s former teammate at Tennessee did not escape the IL. Second baseman Jorel Ortega, drafted in the sixth round by the Twins, exited his Low-A debut after one plate appearance last Tuesday. He started the game as the designated hitter, reached on a two-run single in the first inning, then was called out on a double play. The Fort Myers Mighty Mussels placed him on the injured list with a left wrist sprain Friday

Sucks for Ortega. Wrist sprains can be annoying depending on the grade. They might just shut him down this late in the season and look forward to next season.

Boy, those wrist injuries are tough and totally unpredictable. I had a TFCC injury that required some extensive surgery 3 years ago and it still gives me fits. Prayers to Gilbert and Ortega that these injuries are just a bump in the road.
