Hats Off to the Traveling Vol Fans!

It was not really that loud being there. The OU fans were surprised at how well we travelled. Most were really cool. However, as with any home crowd, there were some def jerks. The ones who stayed until the bitter end were especially upset. They are in for a long season and a reframing of expectations.

It was a weird but fun game. We sat in the upper deck w fellow Vol fans as I didn’t want to sit with Sooner fans.

A few observations:

1. Neyland is def special. From the Pride of the Southland to running out of the T.

2. It Didn’t feel like a football game during timeouts as too many extra curricular activities, inc light shows.

3. Neyland is def louder with intense atmosphere.

4. It’s great to be a TN Vol!

I was in lower deck, 10 rows behind vols bench. The OU fans said their stadium hasn't been like this before and that it was awesome! All I was able to say was welcome to the SEC.

There was a crew of Vol fans that had a rental about 1 block from stadium, right off Lindsey dr. They were playing rocky top for all of the exiting sooner fans!

Well done!

Most of their fans were very welcoming. Had a few extremely intoxicated sooner fans passing by and yelling at vol fans by concessions, that's the norm for traveling in the SEC.

I went with an OU alum coworker who has had season tickets there for the last 30 years. He said he's never seen the stadium with so many fans from the opposing team. We definitely showed up and showed out!

A couple of my takeaways:
- We were about 10 rows from the field by the OU sideline and it was deafening in the first quarter (it got to 117 decibels).
- Field was absolute trash. It looked worse up close than it did on tv.
- Fans were generally nice but there was a definite sense of inflated egos and snobby-ness after dominating the Big 12 the last decade.
- The stadium is a lot smaller than I expected but the seating is very close to the field & sideline. I dont know if it was just me but the lighting on the field seemed weird/off.
- The halftime show was really entertaining as was the Toby Keith tribute to start the 4th quarter. We definitely need to change our 4th quarter song.

We were there it was awesome! Since I’ve never been to Neyland this was the most UT fans I’ve ever been around. It felt SO good to be around so many of you and my younger son says he’s never been more excited to be a Vols fan so thanks!

It makes sense that Oklahoma fans were surprised at the large turnout of Tennessee fans. They're just not used to playing against teams in Norman with rabid fanbases. The 1 team they consistently played that would qualify (Texas) was always a neutral site game, similar to Georgia vs Florida. They've played many games in Norman against ranked teams, but programs like Texas Tech, Baylor, and Kansas State aren't going to bring crowds like Tennessee will. I'm sure when they played Ohio State in 2016 or Notre Dame in 2012 it was pretty similar.

It’s always nice to be the last one standing! Oklahoma fans started leaving towards end of the third quarter.

Go Vols!
