I'm no expert on the rule about offensive lineman down field, but it looked to me like both the RG & RT released down field when Nico was flushed out of pocket. I wonder if he had thrown it, it would have just been a penalty regardless.

I wish I could rewatch that and agree with you, but it was too painful to watch the first time. That would not surprise me though. It seems our line has minimal awareness. We are going to be in a real mess once Cooper moves on. I know David Sanders can’t get on the field soon enough.

Nico was going to get some criticism regardless of how the last play went down.

But isn’t it funny how that one play defines a QB? If he throws that ball and gets a TD the entire narrative on Nico changes.

He was going to get criticism regardless of the outcome of that final play. It’s more like not throwing the ball when he had nothing more to lose was concrete evidence that he had a really bad game.

Not sure I'm correct on this but a game can't end on a penalty giving us another shot at a Hail Mary.

If the pace of the offense and the speed of the game in general are too fast for Nico right now, why not give Gaston Moore some alternating series? Rhetorical question, it won’t happen.

There are only three possible outcomes: touchdown, defensive penalty, or losing the game. Any play that isn’t a TD or a defensive penalty is equal. Throwing the ball makes a TD or DPI possible. You just have to throw it up to the least bad option.

I noticed a few plays before that Heupel had to burn a timeout himself as the play clock was about to hit zero. The whole night was full of mistakes and issues. Can't put the blame on one person, there was enough to go around.

Just man up. His decision making, including mistakes of judgement on rpo's, etc. show
Nico is not up to speed as we thought. He is still a year from being a good qb.

Right now his numbers are worse that Milton's after 5 games. Coaching goofs aren't helping him.
JH needs to get that offensive mind going and quit this conservative b.s. You can only rely on
your running game to a certain extent. Let's start taking a few chances (i.e. stop punting when we
are in opponent's territory, stop running up middle every frigging 2nd down, etc)

Folks comparing Nico to Peyton, and even Arch Manning, and other RS Freshmen that played well fail to see the entire picture.
If Nico were to play behind that O Line at Texas, he would easily put up Arch like numbers.
Give him ANY of the O Lines that were here under Fulmer and it would be lights out ball.

Without a good, consistent, O Line the QB has to think even faster and I just think that right now Nico is on the edge of grasping that game speed.
Will he get there? - Yes
how long will it take? - THAT is the question of the year, but my fear is there will be more lumps along the way to getting there.
