.... is to avoid the stupid killer penalties. False start, motion, illegal man downfield (even though that was a bullschiit call) - those kinds of penalties had us behind the sticks all night long last week, making the offense predictable and increasing the pressure on a struggling offensive line. I would include holding, but that can be called on virtually any play, I'm talking more about the dead ball calls and basic fundamentals. And I won't even mention the idiotic running into the kicker penalty that I thought was the turning point last week.

Heupel's offense is predicated on staying ahead of the sticks, creating positive down and distance situations where the playbook can be opened up, the defense is on its heels, and the fast pace comes into its own. 2nd and short and 3rd and short are downs where the defense can't pin its ears back the way Arkansas was all night last week, so pass pro will be better and more downfield shots will be there.

If we can avoid those penalties and create positive first down plays and keep the building rocking, we will roll the Gators tomorrow night.

Good points by all , but to me the key is staying ahead of the sticks. This is such a tempo and momentum oriented system, and it just seems to stall out after those bad dead ball penalties. That clearly has to change, as the false starts will happen more on the road, but I just feel that avoiding those kinds of killer penalties is the key to short yardage situations, which opens up the playbook.

I'd also like to see more RB screens and quick release throws like slants and curls. Get the ball out of Nico's hand fast and keep the chains moving.

A solid run game is important no doubt but we HAVE to see the passing game come together. Another bad passing game and red flags are going off like crazy.
Off tackle, sweep, toss, screen out of backfield, PA to crossing/slant, TE over middle, PA designed Nico run.

Anything, just not up the damn middle.

I think up the damn middle is exactly what the doctor ordered against this D. Over and over and over. They may stop it a little bit at first, but after about 10 times, they will be giving up four and five yards a carry- at that point it’s ballgame. They’ll have to put 9 in the box and you know what that means.
Our crappy pass blocking O line will shove them down the field like they are on roller skates after a while. They don’t have enough beef on Dline to sustain four quarters of this.

We couldnt move a 3 man front, two/three weeks. Often times, against NC State it was DS doing the work.

Whatever we do, they better use tempo. That is our bread and butter.

Agree. And those between the tackles runs where Sampson picks up 5-6 yards create the short yardage situations I was talking about, which makes the playbook wide open and keeps the D on their heels. I would like to see some sweeps and RB screens mixed in.

Florida struggles to stop the run. If Vols can’t run the ball, it’s gonna be a tough season.
