Defense Wins Championships

The offense requires a pulse and can't be activated to do something halfway thru the 3rd quarter.

It's not required to air it out 40 times a game. The short passing game is being overlooked somehow since the offense resorts to screens or the deep ball. Very little in between. Not sure if that's Halzle or Heupel's game plan.

I read where that's actually not entirely true. Gotta have a balanced team.
There is a great article regarding that on the Freakonomics website.

It's old but very informative

The 60+ crowd still seems to have trouble accepting this
Let this 60+ try to splain it to you in a way you might could understand.

Offense is your pretty little girlfriend you love having her around and being seen with her.

Defense is your big brother and a couple of friends.

Now if you go out and get into a fight, who do you want with you, your pretty little girlfriend or your big brother and a couple of friends??

So all of you don’t think the offense might actually improve. So far we are 5-1! If we can just improve 7-10 points a game on offense I don’t see any team scoring wild on the Vols D! We will be ready for Bama!GBO

....yet here the Vols are, 5-1 and firmly in control of their own destiny. Enjoy it. I saw we dropped a couple of spots in spite of the win. Pretty sure that's already up on the bulletin board in the locker room.
If the offense can improve just enough to win this one…well first of all, beating your greatest rival is great no matter what else happens, but if we could limp into the second bye 6-1 and the offense can improve little by little, who knows what might happen in November/December…

Your pretty girlfriend because she can just call the cops on them and have them arrested for even looking at her wrong…

Defense wins championships is BS.

Check the CFP championship games and the winning team has needed, with a few blowouts removed, around 30 points to take the win. None have "defensive struggles" in recent years.

Going back to 2016, the national champion has been the team that was #1 in scoring defense 4 out of 7 times. Going back to 2009, the national champion has been in the Top 10 in scoring defense 13 out of 16 times, with the exceptions being 2020 Alabama (13th), 2021 LSU (31st) and 2010 Auburn (53rd). Defense still wins championships.

Nice analogy but it isnt accurate.

A look at the data available says that both the offense and defense are equally important to winna championship l.
