He was hand picked by Bob to help with broadcasting while enrolled at UT.

He currently works for that university down south..

We need to bring him home!!

Interesting. I've never heard of this guy. Has a pretty solid resume but I've never heard him call a game. He is a Kingsport like myself boy stuck in Bama land....maybe we should bring him home....

He is very talented and very young. Would be the voice for 30 years or more.

Rumor is that Bob has recommended him to replace.

He is already in line to replace Bama's announcer.

Some casual speculation on Wilkerson or reaching out to Mike Keith. Not the biggest fan of their delivery. So hard to follow a legend like John Ward even 20+ years later.
Wilkerson isn't Ward (no one is) but he would certainly be an upgrade to Kesling for sure! And, as I said before, he's earned the opportunity.

Lmao! Damn it shows how unawake I still am! I didn't even catch the mistake myself! Ha! Another cup of coffee and I'll be good!
Ha! Same. Slept really late yesterday which meant I knew I would wake up early this morning. My body does that to me as I get older. Anyway, I typed Fulky and then thought, wait, that dude played basketball for us two years ago! Sorry, John Wilkerson!

Mike Keith fell victim to not being in the right place at the right time. Kesling was that man and Tennessee hired him as a logical pathway to replace John Ward. From a purely broadcasting talent perspective, Keith was far superior to Kesling. The number of on-air mistakes by Bob was mind-boggling at times. His post game interviews where he asks the players a supposed question while leading them to answer the question in the way he wants it answered is perplexing. There are many ultra-talented candidates that could fill the bill for what will be a coveted position. I thank Danny White sees that and understands how this position needs to be a home run hire. The Kim Caldwell hire is looking to be one of the best hires ever for women’s sports.

Wilkerson is great guy, but his voice range is very high pitched and shrill to me. Everything he says is delivered in the same extremely high level of almost incredulous amazement, no matter how mundane the actual thing taking place. Just wears me out after a while listening to Catholic HS broadcasts. Just my 1/2 cents worth option. Hope we get a good’un!

I am all for the vol family and traditions but we need to stop "bringing people home" and get the best person available. Just like we did with CJH, CTV, and CKC. Just because they went to UT doesn't mean they are the best at what they do.....see Paul F.
I totally agree with a "best means best" meritocratic approach. It has proven successful in coaching, though often with the risk of losing that successful coach to another place they've called home. (...or their "dream job.")

But there's this constant complaint (not mine) that fans aren't satisfied with word pictures--our fans also want the announcer to reflect their level of excitement in the play-by-play.

So it's an unusual job description:
We want a professional play-by-play person who will then sacrifice his professionalism to become a homer. An "objective homer." But not too objective--at least against certain teams.

I can see where the best way to hire that kind of jackalope is to find a very professional alum, whose head will be professional and whose heart will provide the passion. But it's a tough balancing act!

(And I wonder if becoming that announcer ends your career opportunities to ever go back to being an objective professional again? How many SEC announcers end their careers by retiring? Seems like most.)

We caught lightning in a bottle with John Ward. CJH wasn't a "homer" before he got here and our traditions, history, and atmosphere seems to have made him one. Let the same happen to be best broadcaster available.....
