One advantage the Vols have is that a UGA loss would be in G10.

Texas losing to TAMU is G12.

Indiana losing to OSU is G11.

And there will be 5 losers in the P5 conference championships the day before the Playoff is set.

I am getting a little peaved at the media. It seems like the narrative is becoming a two loss Tennessee will be the team to miss out because of our sos. So a two loss Bama, who Tennessee beat in the head to head, is more deserving?
Bama has better wins than we do (assuming we don't beat UGA), including a thumping of a ranked team on the road. 2-loss Bama will absolutely be ahead of 2-loss Tennessee.

It's just a P4 for a couple years.

I would like to see a UT vs UT sec conference game.

We have the head to head and would be ahead of them in the SEC. Tennessee has been in the playoffs since the Arkansas loss left us for dead. Tennessee just keep winning and we control are own destiny now. Georgia is next.

This x 100000. We beat BAMA, but the Tide is this week’s chosen child since with the dub @ LSU. All I hear is Bama “found their offensive identify.” Bama still lost @ Vandy, who lost to GA State. The Vols lost @ Arkansas but again, BEAT bama.

I don’t see our Vols winning in Athens. Nico, Sampson, and Thornton are banged up while our LBs are still trying to find their way since Pili went down. Plus, great teams rarely lose consecutive games, and the Athens crowd may wreak havoc on our o-line - pre-snap penalties. Plus we struggle w/ holding penalties every game.

Imo, a 10-2 Texas or AtM team will leap frog a 10-2 Vols team. So the Vols need a Texas win @ aTm to knock out the Aggies.

Time will tell but I don’t see more than four SEC teams getting into the playoffs since Indiana and Notre Dame will take up spots.

Bama
UGA
Texas or aTm (play end of season)
Ole Miss

Outside looking in:

Vols - must beat UGA
Texas (If they lose to aTm)

If we lose to Georgia but beat Vandy I don't see how they can justify putting Bama in ahead of us. We beat them Head to head and would have beat the only other team that Bama lost to.
But they will as bummer is the "brand". The league and playoff people talk head to head but wait and see what happens. Always an excuse to take care of the turd.

Yes - we do control our destiny at this point. But with a loss to Georgia, we're going to fall behind Alabama. The silver lining might be that, depending on who all is 6-2 in the SEC, Bama has a good chance of going to the SEC championship game against either A&M or Texas because of who they've beaten. That sets the stage for them to pick up another loss while we sit at home and don't have to play.

Playoffs? We talking about playoffs?

Heupel has a chance to beat Georgia’s ass Saturday. For recruiting, for his legacy, for conference supremacy that is the biggest test of the year. And for once, we have the better team.

Yes, very big for CJH. Win this game and he will be 5-4 against Al, Ga and Fl over the past three seasons. He’s brought this program a long, long way.

If we were to lose to Georgia, you’d get in a situation where we lost to Georgia, who lost to Bama, who lost to us. So the head to head win would not be as clear or convincing. Georgia would have a win over Texas, Ole Miss would have a win over Georgia. Texas, A&M, and Ole Miss would have wins over Arkansas, who beat us. There is just no easy path now without winning Saturday.

According to ESPN, Texas SOS is 56, Vols is 35.

Texas SOS is #14 (last) in SEC. UT's SOS is #13.

If we lose @ UGA by < 15 and TAMU (home) beats Texas, we're in. Again, TAMU v Texas is G12. UT v UGA is G10.

And at 10-2 we jump over the SEC-CG loser whomever it is.

They've beat 4 teams currently in the Coach's Poll Top 25. We've beat 1. Since SOS is the #1 criteria for CFP selection, they deserve it.

That being said. Just win baby.

We should and will finish ahead of both ole miss and the loser of Texas/a&m
Assuming we finish 10-2, here's what I think would be best case scenario:

ACC:
This almost certainly is a 1 bid league. I don't think we have anything to worry about here

Big 12:
If BYU loses any of their 3 remaining regular season games, this also becomes a 1 bid league. But if they don't, then we just need them to go ahead and win the Big 12 Championship

Independents and Other:
We need Notre Dame to lose to USC. I'm assuming ND beats Army, but if Army wins that, it could potentially set up a scenario where the committee puts both Boise State and Army in the playoffs. But at least Notre Dame would get kicked out. So, best case is Army and Notre Dame lose and only 1 team from outside the power conferences gets a bid

Big 10:
Will Indiana get handed a bid at 11-1? Probably...even though they will have only played 1 good team all year. How the heck did that happen?? As it currently stands, the Big 10 seems destined to get 4 teams into the playoffs. But if Penn St loses at Minnesota, they're going to need help to sneak in.

SEC:
It would be nice if Texas could somehow lose at Arkansas. This would set up an elimination game between Texas and Texas A&M. Otherwise, I'm fine with Texas just winning out and knocking both A&M and whoever they play in the SEC Championship out. It would also be really nice if Florida could distract Lane Kiffin by giving him tours of campus (and off campus if you know what I mean...).

Not all of the above needs to happen, but a good bit of it does if we are to get a bid this year (again, assuming we don't win in Athens).

Ole Miss will have beaten both of the teams that beat us if we lose to Georgia. We will have beaten only one team that beat them.
That’s true. It depends on whether they focus on wins or loses. Their loses are worse than ours (if we lose at Georgia). There’s no shame in losing in Athens and that’s a better loss than LSU who continues to implode. Them losing at home to KY is the worst loss for both teams. At least our loss was on the road. But, like you said, if they put more focus on wins, then ole miss will have the edge. Basically let’s just win Saturday.

Imo, the only reason they ranked Mizzou last week was to give Bama a second ranked win at that time. Every pundit out there and people with eyes, know that Mizzou is not even close to a top 25 team. Their other 3 wins are solid. Although if LSU continues to implode, that win will continue to diminish.
