Broad Street is their version of what The Strip used to be in Knoxville.
Many restaurants and bars. It’s right cross from their campus.

Athens really isn't anything special. UGA fans are extremely sensitive though. Just like going anywhere, don't act like a cocky jerk and they will mostly leave you alone.

People will bark at you if you go near certain tailgates. It is just weird but just ignore it unless they get close enough to spit in your face while they do it.

Also, one word of warning: the cops there are insanely strict. This isn't a knock on UGA for the dangerous driving; the police there are super quick to ticket. DO NOT SPEED and careful around the roundabout exchange in the middle of campus. People will be walking around there crossing streets without a care in the world. There are a lot of drunks in that fanbase who think they can walk anywhere they want on Saturday too. That makes the cops pretty grumpy on a good day, as they have a really difficult job there. Make it easier for them as they try to stop drunks from peeing in bushes or getting run over.

Be ready to have a bunch of grown ass men jump in your face and bark the entire ****ing game.
And and the short ridge from the interstate to the campus takes hours. Not a great place to visit but hopefully we be jump on them early and keep them quiet

Like anywhere, there are some good fans. Proportionally, the fewest will be at uga.

Entitled, pseudo-elitist, and constantly needing affirmation.

Look beyond the lack of tradition, game day experience, and fans wearing leather collars and I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
Yeah, I hope you have a good experience. I wouldn’t go there with free tickets. In 2021 at Neyland there were four drunk 20-something Georgia fans next to us and that was the most miserable game I’ve ever sat through. They were cussing the Vols from before the game all the way until we left. Totally classless! I can’t imagine what they’ll be like in Athens.

If you feel like eating dinner early on Friday, Fresh Air BBQ out on Hull Road is excellent old timey BBQ. They close at 7PM though. Parking: Try the classic center but be there pretty early. Pregame restaurants vary from kind of fancy to just old school hangouts. My top two in downtown Athens are The Grill & Clocked.

my prayers are with you. Worst visiting game we have ever been too (and I've been everywhere except Mississippi state).
Gainesville only slightly edges out Athens for worst in the SEC IMO. Gainesville is the only place I have seen multiple physical altercations, with some being between two UF fans. This was during the height of the Urban years too.

One of, if not the worst, fanbases in the world. And to top it all off it smells like a used porta-john no matter where you go.

The older UGA fans (those with some degree of historical perspective) aren't so bad usually. They've seen the highs and lows that programs go through. I sat in a crowd of them in 2016 and had no issues whatsoever.

The younger fans (and bandwagoners) are annoying but harmless as well. Just point them to the nearest hydrant on which they are prone to relieving themselves. If any morons bark in your face, just shake your head and laugh at them. They love that.

This right here. Creating a stadium environment that is feared by the opposing team is one thing. Being downright nasty is another.

A couple of years ago in Athens I was fortunate enough to score tickets 4 rows behind our sideline. My buddy and I were the only ones wearing orange in the entire section. We both got completely soaked from beer showers. Peanut shells, candy wrappers, ice cubes, and other miscellaneous items rained on us all game. And the worst part was the parents of the UGA players who were in the adjacent section. They were hootin' and hollerin' at us as if we were Israelis taking a stroll down the Gaza strip.

On the walk back from the stadium to the tailgate, I have never been harassed so much as an opposing fan. One kid got in my face and screamed "go back to Knoxville, you ****in' inbred hick!" Mind you, I live in Atlanta. My response was, "well, at least my state didn't vote for Biden!"

That's unacceptable but not surprising. I find most UT fans usually get on others that are being too rowdy to opponent fans. That's the way it should be, stadium "security" is a joke. I have no interest in paying a lot of money to go be treated that way.

I didn’t have nearly the same experience you had, but UGA was by far the worst game I’ve ever been to. The fans were absolutely terrible. I’ve been to Gainesville multiple times and never had a bad experience. Just stay off fraternity row! That should be a given for any place though

They are the worst. Watching them pouring out to multiple choruses of Rocky Top in the third quarter will be delicious.
We will have a HUGE and LOUD crowd there and the Vols are going to beat their qb senseless.
Just smile when they bark and do not engage.

Worst fanbase in history both times I have been there. First time I was 14 and grown men were barking in my ear in the urinal. Went back 10 years later and nothing had changed. Weirdly hostile
