How many of y'all remember the game Alabama's defense had against LSU in the national championship back in 2012?

LSU was 13-0 and were coming off back-to-back blowout wins against #3 Arkansas 41-17 and #16 Georgia 42-10 in the SEC Championship. Then they play Alabama in a rematch for the national championship, and this happens:

LSU's offense did not cross the 50-yard line the entire game. Alabama scored 1 touchdown and kicked 5 FGs on their way to 21-0 shutout victory. DEFENSE, BABY. This is how we beat Georgia.

Alabama's DC was some guy named Kirby Smart that year also.

I think the formula is really simple.

1. Stop UGA's run game
2. Make Beck Beat you throwing the ball and give the D a chance to put pressure on him
3. Sampson and the O control the clock, shorten the game, and score 2-3 TDs and 2-3 Fgs

I think if the Vols can score more than 24-27 points, they can win.

I’m thinking we can hold them to single digits and win 13-9 or 9-6. Something UGLY.

The O/U is 48. I am not a gambler but I feel like taking the under is easy money. Neither of the offenses are going to put up more than 24 against those defenses.

No turnovers. RBs have to have 200 yards. Moore has to complete enough passes to keep them honest. Hold them to 20 points and win the time of possession. Very simple,

If Sampson can carry this team Saturday he will be in the Heisman conversation.

Must punch them in the mouth on offense early and score. No fumbles by Sampson. We do that, we silence the crowd and start putting doubt in the minds of the team and fans. We cannot wait until 2nd half to get our crap together

I agree on D, and no doubt we have to run the ball. But we also have to take shots down the field. Their secondary is vulnerable, if we get any kind of passing game going the running game will benefit. Especially in the 3rd and 4th quarters. GBO

The defensive gamplan for both teams is going to be similar: if you can stop the run without adding folks to the box, then the opposing offense is going to be in trouble fast. Neither team is great at throwing in to 7-8 defensive backs.

The big difference maker is that we have one of the top RBs in the country, while their best RB is questionable. They have the second worst rushing offense in the conference. We can absolutely drop a bunch of guys and force Beck to make tight window throws to WRs that have struggled to catch passes.

Our offense uses a lot of zone and counter blocking schemes to get extra guys blocking. WE WILL NEED TO WIN 1:1s ON THE OFFENSIVE LINE, as UGA definitely has guy who can cover multiple gaps on a run play. We need to get them to bite on adding an extra guy to stop Sampson from getting steam.

This. I will add, don't be conservative and call plays scared as we have done before on the road.
