Most of who remember will tell you the "experts" give us a better chance of winning tomorrow than they did the '86 Sugar Bowl.

An amazing win, an amazing Vol crowd inside the SD.
I think you could hear them in Tennessee if you were standing outside your house!

1985 season. But the 1986 Sugar Bowl (1/1/1986)

As already pointed out and acknowledged, it was Jeff Powell with the 60 yard 3rd quarter run to go up 28-7 which pretty much finished off Miami. He blew by Miami’s secondary (Bennie Blades) untouched despite Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles never shutting up about their blazing speed. Johnny Majors and Ken Donahue gave UT fans a masterpiece that day. Other than Miami’s opening drive and Mark Hovanic spiking the ball after recovering a fumble and drawing a 15 yard penalty (he was kind of excited), UT played an almost flawless game.

Tony Thompson had the 4th quarter 1 yard dive over the line of scrimmage for the winning score in the 1991 Sugar Bowl versus Virginia. UT hasn’t been back to the Sugar Bowl in 33 years. Dooley was a WR on that Virginia team. Their band was an embarrassing clown show making fun of Elvis and, IIRC, hillbillies.
