There has been a lot of negativity after the loss to Georgia. I thought I might share my thoughts about how the race is looking.
The top 10 teams are basically set, aside from any major upsets.
1. Oregon
2-3. Ohio State/Texas
4. Penn St
5. Indiana
6-9. Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama
10. Tennessee
All of these teams are from either the Big 10 or the SEC meaning that we would be the first team out after auto-bids from the final three conferences. If we win out and Texas wins out+the sec championship then we are almost certainly in, because the committee would not put a 3 loss SEC team, the loser in the conference championship, in the playoff. Outside the sec and big ten there is very little competition for at-large bids, and BYU loss to Kansas played a big role in that. I don’t see a scenario where a 2 loss big 12 or acc team gets in over a 2 loss SEC team.
The loss was very disappointing last night but we are still very much in the mix for the playoff.
