Just wondering what other Vol fans thoughts were on this subject? Personally I think a team that finishes first or second in the conference should not be punished for a loss in a conference title game. I post this likely knowing Bama will be one of the two teams in the conference title game.

Not enough choices. If a team has 2 or 3 losses overall, it absolutely makes a difference.

Conferences might have to be compensated to drop their championship games. Or, the SEC must go back to divisions like the Big 10. Alabama and Auburn could easily move into the East

6 game rotating schedules with 2 annual opponents for each division. 2 rotating opponents from the opposite division. 2 games out of conference with P4 opponents and 1 group of 5 and 1 cupcake

I dont know that i agree with that especially when you have some teams that dont play in a conference game. I guess its a little more arguable in the SEC's case this year since theres such a log jam of teams viaing for a few spots in the playoffs. I guess if a team gets blown out in the title game i could see them being justified in dropping especially if the final teams were so close.

It still should depend on strength of schedule and record but when i read the strength of record, Indiana looks awesome so SOR probably needs fixing…

For example, when Texas loses in SECCG, they still will not have played and beaten anyone but Texas A&M so they should not be in CFP but they will be

Should be an even playing field at bare minimum. Notre Dame should be forced to join a conference or sit at home during playoffs. A team like Boise State getting a bye isnt going to sit well long either. The current system isnt a sustainable one.

I think their strength of schedule prior to this weekend is like 106th in the country. They have had an easier schedule to this point than any other prespective playoff team.

If it’s a 3rd loss, then absolutely. I can see the argument not to punish a team for its 1st or maybe even 2nd loss. But a 3rd loss, absolutely should be heavily considered.

In December when they announce the final pairings, Boise won't have a bye. They will be lucky to host. If they lose and Army wins, Army will get the slot

Maybe but if its a team say like Bama. Let's just say they get in with 3 losses; would Bama be favored over Indiana, Penn State, Notre Dame even with all three of those teams being at home?

I think it depends. If the losing team back doors their way in, and looks pretty terrible in the championship game and just looks average down the stretch, maybe you hold it against them if it gives them a third loss or something of that nature. But I don't think we'll see that as much moving forward in the SEC, now that we are doing away with divisions. Not impossible, but not as likely.

Now, that is mainly for the SEC, which I and many others believe to be the best conference.

In other lightweight conferences I think a loss in the championship game could could carry a lot more weight in being left out of the playoff.

Yes, they would be the favorite in all those matchups regardless of being the visitor. Who's beating Bama in the SECCG? Besides winning out, that's a contingency I haven't seen proposed. What if we win out and Bama wins the conference? We're most certainly in because of the matchup they will have in the championship game. There are scenarios that haven't been discussed

This is why I can't really answer the poll question with the choices provided. My thought is that it depends. It is not a cookie cutter situation. For instance, say the SEC ends up with 6 two loss teams. Two have to be selected for the championship game. If those two participants are selected by a sixth or seventh tiebreaker, is it really a situation where they earned that spot over the other teams? If you don't "punish" the loser of the championship game, then you are basically giving more weight to the fact that team's conference opponents had a slightly better overall record than you are to an extra loss, and a third one at that.

Price you pay in my opinion. You can potentially have a first round bye, or not make it at all. Glad we don’t have to go to Atlanta, I think we’ll get in anyways.

Kind of off topic but this brought something to mind. I don't recall who it was but someone started a ridiculous thread about Sankey changing the tie breaker rules to force Tennessee to play in the SECCG where we would likely lose and miss the playoffs. It made me think about how funny it would be if Sankey got tired of the selection committee's BS rankings and the logic behind them and decided to add an opt out clause to the tiebreaker scenario. For argument's sake, let's say Texas wins out, Georgia, Bama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee finish the regular season safely in the field and opt out of the game, then South Carolina takes the spot, beats Texas, and claims the automatic bid. Then, you have SCar, Bama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee in and they have to decide what to do with an 11-2 Texas team. Clearly, something like that would never come close to happening but it would be a pretty big F you to the committee.
