Obviously games on Dec 20/21 would be during the Christmas break for UT students.
You have to wonder how many would stay in Knoxville to go to the playoff game.
Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that 5000 students do so.
If they didn’t use up their ticket allotment, what is left would be sold to the general public which makes for a little older (less loud?) crowd.

I haven’t heard or seen anywhere how many tickets are required to be given for the opposing team to sell.
Let’s just, for the sake of argument, assume that the opposing school gets 5000 and they sell them all.
And let’s assume we get one of the two night games (there is one night game on Dec 20 and one on Dec21 with the other two games at noon and 4pm on Dec21).
Let’s assume that the temperature for an 8pm at kickoff is between 35-40 degrees.

Now, for my question.
What will the environment be like ?
How loud? Like a typical SEC game against one of our rivals? Or louder?
Our fans will be all wrapped up in jackets and coats 🧥 (hopefully Orange 🍊 ones).
Clapping with gloves doesn’t make a lot of noise.
However, will we be all liquored up (think LSU Cajun level drunk) and be rowdy as drunken sailors screaming our voices raw?
Would it matter who we play? Would we be more fired up against Texas than, say, Indiana?

Oh well.
This is a great “problem” to have.
I am just so excited that we are RELEVANT again.
Thank you White, Heupel, Boyd, Donde.
Now just take care of business in Nashville on Saturday and then watch the selection show the following week to see who, when, and where we play.
This is fun, dammit! GBO!!

If we host a playoff game it will be sold out and it will be loud. GO VOLS!

It will be interesting to see how teams handle the game - do they give the current season ticket holders the chance to buy their seats? If they don't then I can guarantee they will lose the home field advantage by opening up ALL seats to the public on a specific date as they lose control of only having to offer the visitors a set amount of tickets.

I’ve been told the plan is season ticket holders get their tickets for first round as it would be hard to tell season ticket holders otherwise once in the playoffs. Away game teams for first round get 3500 tickets and that includes staff, players families and band. for comparison. Net, very tight for away fans. For comparison, SEC regular season allotments are 5000 for away teams. Tickets will be at a premium (hard to come by) for visitors and home team fans for first round! I’m confident UT student allotment will get fully used. Once you make it to bowl game quarterfinals the allotments are better for both teams. Let’s beat Vandy first!

I wonder how much ticket prices will be for season ticket holders

Are you joking? If we have a playoff game in Knoxville it will sell out in seconds and will sound like the frikken Roman Colosseum with drunk grannies screaming for bloody heads!. Cold or not, people have never had a real chance to do this, and fans are hungry after so long away.

A lot of kids that live off campus will probably stick around and that’s a lot. For those that live in the dorms, some are easily within driving distance and could probably stay with friend. College kids don’t care, they’ll pile up four and five deep in a house or apartment. The two years we played Vandy at home when I was at UT, I drove back Friday after Thanksgiving for that game…and that was just for Vandy. Moms weren’t happy, but there was football to tend to! That, and my girlfriend had to be there for the game. Priorities.

Back in my day UT was on quarter system. Fall quarter didn't start until end of September. We had no problem filling up the student section for home opener.
