Marvin West

Marvin West has lasting credentials. He was sports editor of the student newspaper at the University of Tennessee in 1954. In what was then considered progress, he became sports editor and then managing editor of the Knoxville News-Sentinel. He went to Washington as national sports editor of Scripps-Howard News Service. He organized and directed coverage of World Series baseball, Final Four basketball, Super Bowls, Masters golf and seven Olympics. In Washington as in Knoxville, West was promoted to managing editor. He oversaw a staff of 90 and edited a daily news wire. Scripps had 410 newspaper and radio station customers. West was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers’ Hall of Fame. He is a member of four other halls and was named a “Distinguished American” by the National Football Foundation. Vol athletes chose him as an honorary letterman.

The comment about Nico's one smelly bad throw is a bit exaggerated. I believe the wind really hit that throw - not blaming it on the wind solely - but it was way underthrown and we obviously haven't seen that on long throws - it's typically overthrown. The wind was blowing pretty decent in the stadium and the little construction flags in the endzone he was throwing towards were blowing straight towards him. Vandy basically said Nico has to beat us because they were sold out on stopping the run and got zero pressure on him all day and he made them pay.

You have to know after overthrowing multiple long balls this season the coaching got in his ear about back shoulder and giving your receiver a chance to make the play since he’s lookin* at it. Hence the under throw by Nico.

I think Nico threw it late, he has before, but his big arm compensates most of the time.

Back shoulder might have worked if it was towards the sideline instead of towards the middle of the field. It was underthrown and way off target.

"The beginning of the end of that foolishness was Max Gilbert’s 50-yard answer, a kick that hit the crossbar and fell across. Nico and Thornton linked up on an 86-yard catch-and-run to tie the score. Dont’e looked much faster than the Vandy secondary." Yes Marvin, Donte was faster, the Vandy DB had the angle on Thornton, but it didn't matter! "Orange Lightening"! Marvin West makes me miss a newspaper so much.
