Will there be players opting out of CFP bowl games for NFL draft?

I strongly doubt somebody would sit out of a CFP run, however you just never know with these kids and agents now.

I could see it happening if you had some crazy good QB coming out of the Big12 or ACC that backdoored their way into the playoffs with a few losses and getting the 11 seed. However, these kids are super competitive and I believe are still motivated by championships.

For most teams, only if a player is pretty injured and playing would be questionable in the regular season. There will likely be a small few “me 1st” players that sit out from the 12 teams but it won’t be wide spread.

I 100% believe Shadeur Sanders will sit out after not making the playoffs and likely Travis Hunter.

Hunter should 100% sit out their bowl game. It’s a minor miracle he hasn’t gotten injured before now playing as many snaps as he does.

Sanders is 100% playing in his bowl game. So far Hunter is leaning in that direction as well, though I wouldn’t be shocked if ultimately didn’t

Luther Burden III is among the first to opt out of a 2024 bowl game. I would think that NIL contracts would prohibit this. Do you think a CFP team will have opt outs?
You would hope not, but it's a very legitimate question in the environment that we're in. Unless the NFL starts frowning on it, there are always going to be "business decisions".

I doubt players would sit out a CFP game unless it's a situation where they were injured all year and they aren't 100% but have a good shot at an NFL future.

Non CFP bowls? Absolutely they will and I still don't blame them in most cases. Especially if they are some 7-5/6-6 team playing in a bowl game that 2000 people are showing up to. I think the world will be ok if an NFL prospect skips playing the Gronk LA Bowl.

It’s considered savvy for a regular bowl game nowadays. It would be an obvious red flag to NFL personnel investing money and resources to “business decision” competing for a NC imo.

There will be some "injuries" pop up among the players projected in the first few rounds of the draft. Can't say that I blame them. From the perspective of these players, the schools and corporate America are in it for the money. Who can blame them for playing the same game? When they weigh their entire future and everything they've worked for against a big game for "their" school and teammates, some are going to bail out. Sad, but true.

There are no contracts! Players can do what the hell they want to. This is the problem with this F’up system!
You are correct there are no contracts for playing. However, there are contracts for appearances and IMO the collectives would likely have back loaded a contract so that a very large bonus was paid for doing appearances at the bowl site.

You can show up at the bowl to sign or whatever, collect your NIL money, and still not play in the bowl. NIL contracts cannot be linked to play by NCAA rules. If it's a significant bonus, it'll cover your expenses (assuming the team won't.)

The leverage is completely in the player's favor with NIL which is why it is so unworkable. Rip the bandaid off, make college athletics a pro league, and negotiate with the player's union about sitting out games for the draft.

Agreed that would likely happen on occasion. But a player opting out and showing up is going to hear some fans voice their displeasure and the media would most likely grill them mercilessly. Some wouldn't care but most would skip the NIL money and not show or go ahead and show and play to get the money.

At least IMO thats what would happen.

You'd harass a kid for doing what he thinks is best for his family and future?

So would you harass a coach who recruits over a kid because it's best for the team and school?

Geeze

I didnt say i would. But our fans freaking boo players and coaches now. Players that are giving their all.

You think a drunk Vol fan or 12 wouldn't talk sh.t to a guy that obviously wasn't giving his all for Tennessee?

PS

I wouldn't harass any coach or player for whatever reason. That doesn't mean others hold themselves to thr same standard.

That's what I'm getting at, the average fan isn't going to fault a kid for opting out for their future, nor is it likely the coach would keep them from traveling to the bowl even if they opted out. I can't recall if Joe or Hyatt traveled with the team or not after opting out but some here probably know.

If I can travel with the team, I'm for sure going to the bowl for NIL money.

If I have to foot my own expenses, it depends on the NIL money involved covering it and making it worth it.

As you say, people boo all the time. You're leaving for a freaking shot at the NFL. Let them boo.
