To start off tonight you want to see the CFP rankings reflect the AP and Coaches polls which both think the Vols are #6 in the nation.

If this happens then virtually nothing else will prevent them from hosting a game. Since both Texas and Georgia are ranked higher even if Georgia wins Texas will not affect our rank and both teams could make our rank better with a loss. Preferable would be a blowout win by Texas however unlikely that may be.

Second the SECCG we should be rooting hard for Georgia to lose. They are currently only 1 spot ahead in the rankings and I've never heard of any instance ever where a team lost and didn't fall at least 1 spot in the rankings. This would mean they flip flop with Tennessee and the Vols go to #5. This will be our insurance in case these B10 homers try to shove OSU above us in the rankings.

The outcome of the B10 will have virtually no impact on Tennessee so I wouldn't bother worrying about that one. Even if Oregon completely blows out PSU the blind B10 homers will try and refuse to acknowledge that PSU isn't actually good and a complete fraud.

As long as these B10 homer committee members acknowledge how terrible the Suckeys loss to Michigan was Tennessee will be in the catbird seat.

I would like to see the Volnation create a firestorm of twitter and news posts raising cane if Ohio State is given a home game after getting whipped by a terrible Michigan team! Timing matters! Bring the heat to keep them homest! They are all big 10 cronies and have biased this thing so far to the big 10 it is rediculous! They risk losing credibility and lots of money if they aren’t fair then it won’t survive!

I disagree, Penn St getting crushed by Oregon takes away a good win by Ohio State who we are competing against to host

First, I’d like to hear that Sampson and Squirrel are both good to go for practice next week…
Second, I’d like to see us ranked ahead of Ohio State in tonight’s rankings
Third, I’d like to see SMU win a close game over Clemson.
Fourth, I‘d like to see Georgia lose just because it’s always good when Georgia loses.

Edit: and I want us sign all the players who have committed to Tennessee

Just stop man. They have two top 10 wins, and our Strength of Schedule is equal. It's totally reasonable for them to get the home game ahead of us. The whining from Vols fans if this happens will be pretty pathetic.

Losing to a team you are favored by 21 points over at home is not a good look to end the season.

Sure. but the committee isn't judging anyone by just one game. The whole resume matters. I am of course hoping the committee puts weight on the timing of that loss, but outside of that, they have the better resume.

Thinking tactically:

On the field: we'd like Texas to win big over UGa, and Oregon to win big over Penn State.

Those two things happen, and Tennessee becomes the #4 rank and #6 seed.

Everything else is about getting our lads healthy, and getting in some good, disciplined practices so we're ready to beat whoever comes to Neyland later this month.

~ ~ ~

Thinking strategically:

We also want UNLV to beat Boise State, Army to beat Tulane, and Iowa St to beat Arizona St ... that way, the #18 team in the current rankings gets the #4 seed. That is the best, most potent way to expose the current format, maximizing the chances they scrap 4x conf champ bye seeds in future years.

Really, only the SEC and B10 champs should be guaranteed a spot; they're the only two where the conference champ is undoubtedly, ALWAYS, one of the twelve best teams in the country. Every other conference waxes and wanes, and should be guaranteed nothing. The irony of that is, the SEC and B10 champs have absolutely no need of a rules guarantee; we all know they're going to be ranked among the top three or four in the nation anyway.

~ ~ ~

In summary: we want strong chalk in the SEC and B10, but chaos everywhere else. Heh.

Go Vols!

You are forgetting early signing day tomorrow!

If they put Ohio State ahead of Tennessee tonight there's zero chance that they will flip flop that if Penn St gets best badly given that neither OSU or TN play anymore games.

I would say it's more likely they drop Penn St below both OSU and TN which would be good for TN but highly unlikely

TBH, with the transfer portal, NIL and the fact so many players bust, I'm just not into recruiting or signing day any more. Plus any of these early signees can just change their commitment at any time. I only get excited when good stuff happen on game day.
