I keep seeing this over and over and if you're someone who believes this you are misinformed. The committee deliberates each week and comes to a consensus about where all the teams should be ranked and puts the teams in order. No more no less. I mean, think about it, why the heck would Gary Pinkel care about what the TV ratings are? It makes no sense and really, it a dumb argument.

Would the broadcast partners care about TV ratings? Obviously, ESPN cares about this aspect but they have no seat at the table.

Please quit making this argument...it makes no sense. And if you disagree, just tell me why a committee member might care about ratings?

Why would the people paid by the College Football Playoff care if the playoff is successful and makes money so they can pay them more next year? is that what you are asking? Do movie directors care if their movie sells at the box office or are they just making a movie no more no less?
^^^This. College football is a business. Businesses are in it to make money. The committee are employees of the business and it’s in their best interest for their business to make more money. No one wants to watch ole Miss or South Carolina. The nation prefers bama over Miami. Pretty simple logic. More ratings equal more money. Same reason if the current bracket holds, you will see the two prime time games as ut/osu and bama/domers.

"The NCAA raked in $1.3 billion in revenue last season and distributed more than half back to Division I members. Television broadcast rights crossed the $4 billion mark in 2022 and continue to grow."

Their role on the committee is for a regular term and they're there no matter what the ratings. The ratings impact the committee members in no way at all. If you disagree, of course, please show me how low ratings would impact them negatively or high ratings positively. If you can't then it shows what a dumb argument it is.

That's a statement not an argument...what the F does that have to do with the committee? ESPN might care but they don't have a role in choosing the teams.

Dude, please stop. Think about what you're saying. Do you even know who's on the committee? I'll tell you: Michigan's AD, Baylor's VP + Director of IC Athletics, Miami's AD, Virginia's AD, and Arkansas' AD. EVERY single one of these people care about TV ratings. Do you have any idea about TV contracts? Ratings = $$ the higher the ratings the more $$$. These guys need higher ratings to give them leverage the next time they're across the table negotiating a deal. And, it goes a step beyond. Think about the on field and in stadium signage and branding (like Pilot at Neyland), the more eyes on the logos the more valuable they are when the institution sells them to a sponsor. The reason all the on field logos face the home side is TV. I spent my career on the business side of professional sports and 100% know that TV drives sports.

You're still waiting on your $10 million from that Nigerian prince aren't you?

Movie directors see positive outcomes when they have high sales and negative outcomes with the opposite. Committee members have no impact on themselves for low or high ratings, so not a really smart argument.

If you don’t think that Alabama playing in South Bend won’t be a ratings monster and absolutely advantageous for the first ever CFP game I don’t know what to tell you .

That will probably be the Friday night game. If it sticks, we’ll probably play Ohio State at primetime on Saturday night.

Can y'all be this dumb? Advantageous for whom? How does it benefit Jim Grobe?

I gave him his answer and he ignored it both here and on my thread where he started by calling me ignorant. This guy is either 11 years old, senile, or a huge troll.

The conferences like the SEC and BIG 10 is getting huge money....that money isn't just falling off trees into ESPNs lap to hand out to the playoffs teams.

Yeah....it's about money...lots of it. If not Bama wouldn't be in the playoffs and OSU wouldn't be hosting.

Yes or no...Are AD's outnumbered by people who clearly would have no skin in the game, guys like Pinkel and Grobe, et al?

Nobody seems to be able to answer the key question here which shows the weakness of the argument

Lower TV ratings...negative impact on a committee member like Jim Grobe is X (this is where you fill in the 'X')

Higher TV ratings...positive impact on a committee member like Kelly Whiteside is X (this is where you fill in the 'X')

Every single person on the committee, AD or not, has some sort of tie (direct or indirect) to a school and, unlike you, understand the importance of TV viewership. I'm taking Mark Twain's advice to be done. You remind me of one of Ron White's famous quotes.

Probably gets him a nice bonus if not an outright raise. Not to mention a nice entry on his resume that probably ensures him a job for life. Money makes the world go 'round. You should've learned that at an early age.
