There is a narrative that the CFP is controlled by the B10 and it's true that the current chair is the AD for UM. However if you look at all the members its very diverse. Several members have worked in multiple conferences. Most are former head coaches and/or current/former ADs. There is one Journalist. The members with an affiliation with the SEC is the current AD of Arkansas and a former Mizzou coach. There is generally a couple per conference with some type of affiliation. The only other member besides the UM AD from the B10 is a former Nebraska player. It's interesting that the current AD of Miami is a member (given their new ranking). Looking through the list of members its hard for me to see how a B10 bias could exist.

To me, it's a similar issue that was going on pre-2006 in the college football world. During the 2006 season, Ohio State and Michigan were seen as the top 2 contenders. They played each other in the last game of the season, and Ohio State won by 3 in a close game. There were arguments being made that they should play a rematch in the national title game. 1 think there was 1 voter that actually voted Florida as the #1 team in the country. Florida did make it to the title game as 7 point dogs, and destroyed Ohio State, 41-14. That was the beginning of SEC dominance.
Prior to that, the SEC was still very strong. But, just like you see this season, the strong conference was beating itself up. This leads to additional losses and could make it seem like the SEC is a bit weaker.
This could lead to a Big 10 bias, just as in the past.

They should replace the committee with the BCS but keep the playoff

Pinkel was barely coached in the SEC after mizzou joined, a few years at best. Hardly a "SEC guy" , so we have one guy from arky and a short lived SEC coach. Hardly a fair setup considering all other conferences hate the SEC

I think we'd actually end up a spot lower in the BCS this year if I saw it correctly last night

maybe it needs a little tweaking in the logic.... but I'd be ok with that... but they also need to expand the playoffs

I wouldn't say the CFP is controlled by the B10. But there's more connection with the B10 footprint than you say. One member with strong ties to Michigan...two with ties to Nebraska...one associated with Rutgers...another with Boston College.

Those are the ties I remember off the top of my head, from a read of their bios the other day.

Truly the strongest representation is for the ACC. Six or seven members have ties up and down the Atlantic Coast of the US. A couple of them might be more closely associated with the B10 (the Rutgers and Boston College examples I mentioned), but it is the East Coast where roughly half of the Committee have ties of one sort or another. Wake Forest...Virginia...the writer/reporter probably thinks of herself as a New York gal...Miami...yah, ACC is pretty well represented.

One thing the Committee certainly is not, and that's very good at representing the SEC footprint. One from Arkansas and 0.5 for Mizzou, that's about it. Plus a couple who played in the SEC (football player from Bama, women's BBall from UGa), but looking at their bios, neither of them seems at all tied to their alma maters over the rest of their lifetimes.

Not into conspiracy theories. But where a person sits does influence where they stand, and a group of people this powerful in the workings of our favorite sport, it's wise to know where they're coming from.

Go Vols!

Would point out one of the ADs went to and played at Georgia even though she’s AD at Virginia now.

Many of the members are older and their respective conferences were different when they were involve. The guy played at Nebraska when they were in the Big 8. Rutgers has bounced around. Boston College is in the ACC. Miami was kicked to the curb and the current AD sits on the committee. I still don't see a conf bias. I see shifting criteria or at a minimum poor communication as the problem.

There are a ton of midwestern/big 10 ties. The G5 people shouldn't be involved at all and there are more of them than anyone tied to the SEC. Michigan's AD. Multiple Ohio based people or people who have coached in Ohio. Multiple Nebraska folks.

If 13 people meeting behind closed doors aren’t conspiring, then what are they doing in there? Surely they’re not all working on personal arts and crafts project.

I’m going by the literal definition of working together on a common goal. Not necessarily the negative definition.
