I dont know if college football in general will survive. How does Ohio st loose to a terrible UM team with Ohio st 20m nil payroll?

I cant help but think that jealousy is impacting the play on the field, do we have players on this team who don’t give a s—t cause Nico is making millions and they feel slighted?

When will fans just loose interest? Hell, if players don’t give a damn and can’t get up to play in the playoffs, why spend big bucks for go to Columbus Ohio to see your team not show?

I have to believe our roster SHOULD be better than 2022, but frankly we got much better play and effort from a team that was lower in numbers from the Pruitt disaster. Our offense was dynamic with NO nil money,

I don't think so

players been getting paid for decades

Unregulated portal transfers, eligibility and conference realignment are bigger threats.

Maybe over expansion of playoffs too, but that remains to be seen.

NIL is definitely, hand in hand with unchecked transfers, completely disfiguring college sports, football in particular.

But I also think that, while it's normal in the wake of a big loss - any loss, but especially a big loss - to want to figure out just exactly what went wrong, we don't have the information to know what if anything might have been the issue with the team behind closed doors. If there even was such an issue.

There should be a set salary with the addition of performance bonuses for winning games, etc. That and ticket prices are insane for the average person to attend a live game.

I doubt it. Fans are packing stadiums like crazy, ticket prices were through the roof for some of these rivalry games, and ratings are really high.

As a rule, I don’t mind NIL. There needs to be more rules about transfers though, that’s a big issue.

Define kill

It’s most certainly changing college football. Maybe it’s even spreading the talent out a little bit. After it’s all said and done the market will find an equilibrium. Just like in any other market system there will be the rich and the poor. It’s important for UT to ensure it builds the organizations processes and systems in a way that we find ourselves among the rich.

If we can do that, then we will thoroughly enjoy they future of college football for a very long time.

The love of money is the root of all evil.
People try to dress up NIL and the portal all they want, saying a player “deserves a shot” and “has dreams, too” when the player changes schools like underwear, or verbally commits to a school and then gets into a bidding war between schools who might be fortunate enough to deserve their “taking my talents” to the school.
Plenty of talk and evidence about players being paid under the table in the past, so NIL just means it’s out in the open now.
Opt-outs, both overt and covert, hurt the team. Doesn’t matter to some. Immaturity and a big fat NIL deal don’t go together.
Work ethic, “Giving my all for (insert team here)”, and, sadly, earning a degree are slowly being put to the side in favor of greed. Everybody is trying to out-spend the other.
It’s a shame, because college sports used to be a fun way to spend the day or weekend.
That’s one reason I always look forward to the FCS playoffs and the Army-Navy game every year. They play it the right way.

It would be interesting to know how much NIL money each individual sport gets at Tennessee to spend.

Form what I understand most of our NIl this year went to retaining people, but I don’t know who was really worth retaining at WR. Gotta be honest. Mike Mathews maybe, I think he can still develop and be good.

Danny White will be thrilled with your voluntary contribution on top of the $450 ticket price.
Haha. Yeah, and that performance is what you get for it. Only the fans getting screw. The problem with these young guys getting all of this money is its not being earned. Its coming out of his with expectations. Only about one percent make the league and play, while boosters and sponsors are having to waste $ on maybes

Ratings are higher than ever with billions in cash from media and fans flooding into the programs - it’s pro ball - and will only get bigger

I think it’s hurting consistent incentive and effort amongst players. Every team, save Oregon, laid an inexplicable egg this year, and most seemed to be from a lack of player investment and effort. I blame that on being fat and happy from getting paid so much, and lacking the proverbial carrot to dangle in front of them…..like most of us have with our jobs. Maybe I’m wrong 🤷🏼‍♂️.
I have watched some FCS playoff games (I’m not sure what they do with NIL) and the intensity, effort, and passion by both competing teams trumps any exhibited by the FBS schools.
