People say don't criticize the team or coaches because they won 10 games so all must be great. But count up how they got there: 4 weak out of conference teams, plus Vandy, KY, MS State, OU (a 6-6 team), Fla in overtime. Beat Bama at home, so we beat one good team to get 10 wins. Somehow I let myself believe that TN was a top tier team but I was wearing those tinted glasses.

Good god.. 10 wins in the sec is good damnit. Look at the other playoff teams. Does their scheldule scream tough? No, the team played like **** tonight, but that doesn’t take away from the reality we made it to the first 12 team playoff. Very rarely if ever does a team just show up to the playoffs the first time and win the whole damn thing. It takes steps, it’s a process , and this season was another step in the right direction. Was that game a disappointment, yes it was. Does that mean I’m going to bury my head in the sand and cry about it ? No. Bc as a whole this program took another step in the right direction with this season. You keep chipping away at the mtn, you don’t just get free climb to the top with no obstacles .

We're scheduling 12 NFL teams next year so you won't be deluded.

You weren't alone. Just fans being fans. No shame in that.

Eh, I think it's okay to split the difference on this one. I don't think most are saying "don't criticize Heupel because of 10-2." At least, I don't think they are. And I'm certainly in the "what, 10-2 isn't any good now?" camp myself. But I do think we're seeing a lot of extremely melodramatic stuff about Heupel being garbage, or the program being irrelevant, or a number of extremely emotional statements that are more or less declarations of the program being a failure. And considering where Tennessee was five years ago, versus where it is today, a lot of these strong declarative statements just feel hyperbolic. Something said in the wake of emotional strain or stress from seeing the team lose, etc. Eh. They could be right. No way to know yet. But that also just makes it feel a little much, too.

People really have a lack of context sometimes. How many times do you think the Vols have won 10 games since 2000? Go ahead and guess.
Agree….To take it a step further, how many times have we won 10 games in our history?

Just enjoy. With how this season went, Tennessee’s had 3 straight year of the team winning 9 or more games, something the program hasn’t done since the 1997-1999 period.

Good. Then even the sunshine-pumpers will have to admit that we're not even in the same league as our opponents.
All I can say is all the people that gripe about spending for talent, mainly older folks, and wanting kids that want to be at Tennessee and not a paycheck this is a wake up call. Because this will be the reality, make the playoffs every other year but not serious contenders. I could care less if the roster says we need a CB or not, pay the star CB in the portal a million and either move Gibson to star or backup. The serious teams do this. If not then we can't complain when we get stomped by a team that does

Our baseball coach took over a dumpster fire, got to world series 2 times, lost early and finally won with a team which wasn’t as talented as the prior years team who didn’t make it.

Granted, I am not equating our football team with the baseball team, the main point is that it may take several trips before we make a run.

The 20 year drought we went through almost destroyed our football program. I really feel CJH has all the backing and resources he needs to get to this point. Is he the one to take us there? Time will tell.

Best fan base in the country and we get Dooley, jones, Pruitt and must now be happy that the school blesses us with 10 win coach who got completely embarrassed on prime time.

Yay!!!!

Sign me up for being in a playoff over winning a dumb Tax Slayer bowl any day. Playoff birth, a new year day bowl win. Yeah you should be thrilled where the program is right now. No ones happy with the result of the game, but wake up bozo. We were 3-7 4 years ago 💀

People would be shocked with the answer. The 90s really spoiled a lot of people

Definitely spoiled my butt, that's for certain. Tennessee just got off the bus looking like stone cold killers every time, for about a decade there. Bigger, badder, nastier than everyone else around them. Home games, away games, you just felt like Tennessee was a machine, and you were gonna see them chew someone up and spit them out - and most of the time, they did. I got _real_ used to that. Much easier to decide to attend road games back then. Much, much easier.
