I looked back at recruiting rankings 2020-2024 and OSU is top 5 every year. Our best year we were 7th and then ranges all the way to 24th with some teens mixed in. The talent gap is noticeable and I’m not sure JH is closing that gap much. He hasn’t cracked the top 5 in recruiting yet and I think that matters. He’s on his 5th recruiting class and I believe he has to be able to recruit top 5 consistently or he won’t win games like tonight. It’s not everything but it’s a big component of winning big, you have to have top tier talent.

I have a feeling that Josh feels like he can scheme his way to wins to compensate for the talent gap but I haven’t seen that with the top tier teams…

I wrote this in the recruiting forum. Spyre is seriously overrated after tonight. Need to wake up and change how they are using the NIL with recruitment.

Ohio State just showed the whole country what spending $20+ million will do for a team that had 3 weeks rest. We looked like an FCS school compared to them. Not hating on Will Brooks at all using him as an example. We can’t have walk ons starting on the team. You need elite players all over the field. The only way we will become elite is by getting top 3 NIL money spent rosters going forward. We have the money. SPEND IT. I don’t care about anything off the field for a recruit. The top teams/coaches that win the natty obviously don’t either ie. Urban Myer/Kirby Smart. Will he be an elite playmaker for us? Go get us some future NFL 1st/2nd round studs. This isn’t the “will he fit with the team and our culture” cfb environment anymore. Enough of the bs.

The gap is closing. Recruiting class averages have improved very year under CJH. However it’s time to take that leap into top 5 territory. Portal needs to be hit harder, we’ve avoided big time players and focused more on retaining our current players. Go get elite play makers out of the portal. Period.

The talent level difference was apparent Sat. All I've heard about in the last couple weeks is Vol players entering the portal. I assume some leave because they want more playing time. I did read about picking up a solid O-lineman, so that's a start. Getting blown out like this on the national stage can't help recruiting IMHO
