Is there a really a need for a 12 team playoff?

8 would be better if they selected the teams better (that’s the tough part). Home field means a lot. Even with 4 teams there were more blowouts than I expected.
With 8 teams you are pretty assured of getting the top 3-4 teams in there.

4 teams was always going to be enough. You'll get lots of debate about "deserving to be #12" and all that crap, but nobody says #5 is actually #1. At least historically, that's never been a problem. Like FSU last year. Were they the best team in the nation? No.

Need larger rosters and neutral sites or at least dome stadiums. More football is generally better but these first round games were not competitive. It definitely weeded out the Cinderella feel good teams.

For God’s sake stop whining.

Wah wah wah the first round games didn’t entertain me enough so obviously 4 meaningless bowl game I wouldn’t care about and also would bitch about them existing would be better.

Who cares? Better than bowl games that mean jack s***. Who gives a damn if they are blowouts? How is it any different than bowl games nobody cares about?

Id rather have 16 than 8. More teams keeps more fans involved who never had a chance before. Even if they still don't have a real chance, at least lets give more fans the chance to experience this and players

Notice nobody on any of the 12 teams opted out .....

This is why bowl games don't mean a thing anymore unless it's play off games

More games = more revenue.

This is why the pro leagues have this division championship, then that conference championship, then a playoff series. There are wild card games and play in games and all kinds of ways to get more games in the mix.

This is why there's a March Madness, a looooooong World Cup process, some kind of "in season tournament" in the NBA now, and on and on.

More games = more revenue. We have 12 games, we'll have 16 and we'll watch and hope UT is playing in all of them in all sports. Hoping.

Two is all you really need to find the best team. BCS was pretty darn good at it and maybe only once did people argue about who that second team was. Nearly every first round game in the four team playoff era went like yesterday. Total blowouts. But the 12 team playoff isn't about efficiently finding the best team. It's about generating fan interest and, more importantly, getting them to spend their money.

That I have seen, since I've was actually old enough to actually kind of understand football, there's never been a year where 12 teams were legit good enough to win a NC. Not even close. Not even 2007. There's 4-5, at max, teams that should be taken seriously in any given year. I'd rather lose to Ohio State in the playoffs than go to the Gasperilla bowl or whatever but having a playoff isn't magically gonna level the playing field. Blowouts will continue.

I liked them. It showed who the pretenders were but I’m glad those pretenders got a chance to prove themselves.
