Offense takes 11 people on the same page. Sometimes it was on Nico missing throws or reads. Sometimes it was WRs not getting open. Sometimes it was a bad playcall. Most of the time it was the OL getting absolutely destroyed.
There was always something this season where it just didn’t click. Whether it be bad penalties or turning the ball over after putting together a good drive it just wasn’t pretty for a lot of the time.

IMO, hopefully Sanders is ready and start him at LT and tell Heard he can try to win the job at RT. I'm not fretting if he's not cool with that. Need to get Thompson from Northwestern and he can either play OG or slide out to RT if Heard leaves. Maybe someone like Bennett Warren and Umarov will be able to contribute. We need OL help in a bad way.

Biggest problem is, without Sampson, we had no killer running game. No running game means they could dial in on our receivers with their superior players. Then, the receivers we had were hurt and our Oline gets passed with Nico on his back so he starts scramble mode. Scramble mode means no real deep threat and thus the box keeps getting loaded, making runs even harder. That, and our defense pretty much got torched fast and we were way behind, needing long yardage. All things compounding on one another.

Quicksand.

Receivers not getting separation; but OSU didn't separate much but QB dropped dimes
Nico is good but never makes improvised passes on a scramble , once his 1st or 2nd option is gone he's in scramble mode not really looking to see if anybody is open and its basically over but he did get a couple good 1st downs vs OSU. I think we all thought he would be one of the best in SEC but right now he's an above average SEC freshman QB with a high ceiling.

Hard to judge Nico completely based on the problems around him, but after watching the entirety of the season, there’s a real chance that he just doesn’t yet make good decisions. He missed a good bit of open receivers this year, many with overthrows - others he just didn’t see or was just inaccurate.

Heupel will be judged heavily by whether he is successful in developing him to his potential.

What was the biggest problem?
We do not have a coach problem, a system problem, a predictability problem. What we do have is a QB problem. I have explained it a few times in other threads that the QB this year was the issue. Not that Nico is bad or wont be the guy we want him to be, but this year he could not process information fast enough. Same with Joe. Our offense is built to go fast, there is no misdirection, no motion, nothing to move the eyes of the defense. It is made to be fast, so fast that defenses have to mainly play a base.

Our offense slowed down the last 2 years because our QB's could not process what the defense quick enough. This gave the defense time to see our formation and adjust. Nico had predetermined receives to throw the ball to and we ran simple plays because of his processing time and the OL.

When Hendon was here he was a 5th year QB, he could process the information quickly and get us into the right formation and get the ball snapped quick. We ran the same plays then as now, the defense just did not have time to adjust or get lined up correctly.

Think about when Hendon got to the red zone, we slowed down and scoring became much more difficult. In 2022 we were much more deadly from the 40 than we were from the 15.

If Nico gets quicker, our pace gets quicker, and teams will not be able to adjust. 2022 Georgia was 27-13 with a defensive secondary built in the image of a high school team.

If we get Nico to read the defense quicker, or go to someone who can, then we will speed up and these conversations can go away.

All 9 of these listed are the reason teams practice ---to get better and stop having these issues. Some things like lack of speed you can't over come by practicing, but most all the others you can.
