Looking at the NIL estimates for the top ranked players in the portal, it could take millions of dollars for us to get the talent we need to compete with the likes of Ohio State.
Do we have the resources?
I know it’s the holidays, but we haven’t heard of any new potential players since Moe signed.
The clock is ticking!

Better question is do we want to compete? Overpaying a bunch of high school kids just to win a championship seems silly at these prices.

There have to be people within the program, in Spyre, or related somehow, that know how to run an annual fund. I’m a member of the Volunteer Club, but I would never have known about how to join if not for this platform. And I’m an alum. It’s doesn’t seem all that well organized from a targeted fund raising standpoint.
On the other hand, the Alabama AD sent out a very public message encouraging their fanbase to get contribute to their NIL collective. I’m sure there was a link. More important, he raised awareness and stoked the fires of competition within his ranks.

30k Vol fans dropped what they were doing and trekked to Columbus, a dumpy, cold town (sorry, still a little surly) during Christmas. We sell out every game. The “want to” is there. The message just needs to be crafted and thoughtfully delivered.
From what I hear, Spyre does a great job with what they have. Creative and productive plans for the athletes in addition to funding. Highly organized. I personally thing they have done a great job. But the ante is being upped across the country. I think they could do better with visibility and access. I expect you’ll see Josh and/or Danny publicly making some sort of plea soon.

I think we don’t mind spending money in the portal but do you overpay and lose the ability to land big high school talent as well?

Ohio state was further along so they could go out and spend big on a few positions. We just have more holes to fill IMO. Recruiting is better but must still improve, can’t do that if you blow a lot in the portal.

Everything you said makes sense. I know a ton of vols fans and they have no idea what the Volunteer club is. I'd be willing to bet that's the case with a lot of our friends. We have a massive fanbase who is as dedicated as any so I have no doubt that we can build the NIL to compete with the Elite. We just need to be told how to help outside of an email or internet ads. If 100,000 people donated $200, that's $20 Million which is around what the big teams are paying. That's only one home game of people. Tell us how to help

I loved college sports, especially college football. I go to an average of one game a year, I buy T merchandise. But there is no way I’m going to give $100 - $300 dollars just to buy a football team that does nothing for me other than a few hours of enjoyment 12 days a year. I’m old school and think a young man should appreciate getting a free education with many perks. Not making more money at 20 years old than some make their entire lives. My enthusiasm is declining more day by day. My beloved game is gone.

The american dream is for people to pursue happiness and prosper, but we've got adults Mad at young adults making money doing what they love and refusing to watch sports because of it. just wait til you find out that all these corporate chains and industries you frequent abd give your hard earned money to are corrupt and shady AF

what a shame.

I mentioned this as a joke in another but it did get me to thinking. If we 30,000 people are willing to drive to Columbus, Ohio to watch a game. Why can’t we get 30,000 people to give $500 to the collective? That’s $15M.
Or (Now here me out) instead of 30,000 people sending $500 to spyre they could send me just $50 each! I could REALLY use $1.5M 🤑
I do agree that the Tennessee fan base can raise the money it takes to field a championship team but there needs to be more advertisement on ways to do so.

I said something similar. How many truly devoted Vol fans do we have? Would you say 150k fans is sufficient? I think we have a lot more. But let’s say that’s all we have. We can’t get 100k-150k pro donate $25 per month??? That’s a couple of Starbucks orders.

The Alumni alone have access to big money but is it being allocated in the right areas.

for example, Sacramento State just had 12 donors raise 35M in 24 hours for its football program to move up .
Good grief. So if Sacramento State can do that there is zero reasons why we can’t do that same amount and much more.

Is there enough money for everyone? What effect is/will the NIL contributions have on all of Danny’s fund raising projects? I wonder if it’s necessary to keep building all these fabulous athletic facilities when it appears more and more it’s only about the money for these athletes. My how times are a changing.
