I often wonder about our speed at the WR position. I feel like Hyatt’s speed in 2022 really opened up so much. Obviously it’s not the end all be all (Barion Brown)

Who do you think is our fastest WR?

Squirrel is gone.

Matthews has impressive 4.4 speed but both him and Staley have stuff in their scouting reports about good speed but not amazing speed.

Just curious what people think. Top end speed isn’t even the most important thing for a WR but I do love speedsters.

Squirrell never displayed game breaking speed. Just using a 40 time is useless. Playing speed is vastly different. I have no idea who will be the fastest.
I felt like vs Clemson and Alabama he torched some players pretty badly. But it was never to the same level that Hyatt did.

I’m sure there’s some nuances with how defenses are choosing to defend Tennessee but just haven’t seen people open deep a ton. And sometimes when they are it’s not part of the read or Nico doesn’t see it

Yep. Jerry Rice ran a 4.6. Ever see anyone catch him in the open field? Putting the pads on changes speed for some but not for all

Straight line speed is much different than field speed. Some guys can fly but have to slow down when making a cut or move. Some guys have really good speed and can cut and move with no drop off in speed. Some guys have both. In addition, sight orientation while running full speed is as important as speed itself. Some guys can fly but can’t coordinate a catch at speed. They have too much head movement or depth perception issues or simply coordination issues. It’s not as simple as just being fast.

To be determined by the portal.

During preseason someone interviewed individuals on the team asking them who they thought had the most speed in the new NCAA football game. Answers varied between Squirrel, Mike, and Peyton.

That will likely depend who we get from the portal
