Our roster is nearly full already thanks to a big incoming freshman class. That, plus scholarships lost to the Pruitt scandal, leaves us with room for less than a handful of players.
To add any more than that, we would need to lose a few more players.
Looking at the roster, I see us pursuing one top notch receiver, one more OL, and maybe a DL or DB.

Better load up on OL. Add one stud WR to that and we have a shot at a decent season....assuming Nico has the light come on and he takes that next step. Of course, you can't take a step from your backside so I return again to the need for a much improved OL.

We don’t need “saving”. We have a solid group coming back. We do need to add a few high end players. And we will likely ask a few more guys to leave to make room

Yep, the portal should never be used to build a roster, but when it allows you to upgrade starting spots and replace depth pieces you have to do it

Seems like to me that if the NCAA said we could have 105, then that should erase our limit of 83. According to them it should be 103, even if the SEC said we could only have 85, we should be able to have 85. We would still be 20 less than the rest of the conferences,

Tennessee can cherry pick from the portal.

This makes me feel a lot better about the portal and our perceived lack of recruitment. Thanks for sharing!

Realistically the portal can save this team. If you hit on some key positions. Another great Olineman with Moe if he’s a hit is the difference in wins and losses. An elite safety or a game breaker at WR both might mean another win or loss this season.

lol. The numbers always work out. Nobody knows this better than the coaches. Including who wrote this. We will be fine.

Josh Heupel added recruits rather than transfers to 2025 Tennessee roster

Take a second glance at those numbers. UT lost a combined 25 scholarship players from its senior class (13) and the portal (12).

It replenished that with 25 high school recruits in the 2025 signing class.

So if you’re waiting for the Vols to replace all their veteran players through the portal, you may be looking in the wrong place. The math says UT already decided to go younger by stocking the 2025 roster with freshmen rather than a large haul of transfers.

There will still be transfers. This staff just doesn’t intend to live in the portal the way others have
