A lot of these agents are connected. Some agents have multiple players and maybe even have multiple coaches in that pipeline. Is this all just an agent joke fest? Also, another little conspiracy of mine, it’s evident there is tampering going on, are teams using this as an advantage to make teams over pay for players already on their rosters? That way they have less money to bid in the portal when it comes time for that? It’s nice to be on the winning end of these things happening, so I think it may be time we start doing what other teams are doing to us, NCAA be damned. Time to really cause some chaos to the Miami’s and Oregon’s of the world.

everyone has been tampering since NIL came to life. Its done through third parties, mainly the agents. Almost every player now has an agent.

example of "tampering".

Agent for QB at Auburn calls up agent for WR at Alabama in October. There is interest in your player WR to come over here and play with my QB. Willing to jack up his NIL deal. Can you check if any interest and get back to me?

that is basically how it works and probably 50% of kids going to portal already know where they want to go when they enter the portal.

Yea I figured that was definitely happening. Are their agents that represent coaches AND players? I’m assuming they all have close relationships for obvious reasons. I’m just wondering is there any strategic “pawn” usage to hurt rival teams pockets.

nothing is out of bounds when talking money.

I'm not sure that the coaching agents care about fooling with these kids. They make a bundle off the coaches. Probably a bunch of interns that work for some agency represent most of them. Certainly a high profile kid with a healthy bankroll might get a choice agent.

I got ya. Hopefully someone finds a way to make this less obviously crooked. I’m happy the players are getting paid because they’ve always deserved it. NCAA was just too greedy to let players make their money so now we have a flood of nonsense. If this was introduced earlier in the sport I doubt it would have been as chaotic and given us a chance to make changes where they were needed.

it might have kept the courts out of it which is why it is chaotic and not manageable.

Yep. The players having to go to extreme lengths to get their moneys worth definitely hurt the reaction afterwards. If it was done in good faith, maybe the players wouldn’t have been so aggressive in getting money and pushing the transfer portal to its limits.

The NCAA was and is greedy, but not in the way you claim.

The NCAA did want the athletes to get a dime. They wanted to exploit them. Now they can't. That is a very good thing.

If I were an agent all of my clients would hit the portal every year to see what they get offered from other schools. They can always go back. I would also tell them not to play with even a small injury as long as they get paid. It's also better to not make the playoffs. No need to be risking injury in 4 tough games at the end of the season, you get paid regardless. I would stop using the world playing time and convert to risking injury time. Getting paid without injury would be my main focus for myself and the player.

The teams are not obligated to take a player who hits the portal back.

Not sure if there is a typo at the beginning of your second sentence, but yes I agree. They did want to exploit them. If they didn’t, they would’ve led by good faith and allowed players to get paid their worth. I truly think if they had done that from the beginning, it wouldn’t be the Wild West out here nowadays and schools and players would’ve had more time to adjust.

I believe that depends on the caliber of player you’re representing. Some players who enter will not be able to return. Also it is a risk, especially if there are no teams bidding higher than his current NIL contract. The leverage would be flipped on its head and he could be coming back to the school with less money. But yes, I believe that is occurring nowadays. Personally, if I’m happy where I’m at and believe who and what I’m playing for, I would prefer that over a little extra $$. But that’s me and my wishful thinking. Individualism is strong nowadays.

So just what is a player's worth? Are you saying a player should get part of the money made by the AD at these schools? The problem is that money would need to come for the profit the AD makes. Considering that very few ADs actually make a profit - where would that money come from? For UT, it would imply eliminating many sports that are available. Eliminating those sports = no scholarships to support the education of the participants in those sports who may not be able to attend school otherwise. We would probably be left with Football and Basketball - maybe baseball survives even though it does not make money. And do you pay players based on the profit level of the sport they participate in? Which implies the baseball players get nothing and basketball players get very little.

The ADs at these schools do not operate like a traditional business at all. Additionally, many of the schools receive funds from the states themselves. Football always has been the sport that funds other sports. This will eventually destroy not only football but sports at the college level in general.

NIL on the other hand is around the influence that a player has. That allows them to get endorsements from others who expect to make a profit based on that endorsement. the thing about NIL is that the player must perform.

Let's stop pretending that these players do not get anything from the university! These universities give them the opportunity to play in front of millions. With that the players get exposure (free of charge), training (free of charge), food (free of charge), travel (free of charge) and if they are good - the media coverage that follows them is what allows them to become an effective influencer. This is ALL FREE TO THEM! All of it!

What these universities need to do is provide these players with an overview of ALL the dollars spent on them including what the above "free of charge" items would cost them in the real world.

I thought the schools were not supposed to be directly involved with NIL?

That's all fine but we know players have been paid by boosters to play consistently for decades, so obviously there was more value than the scholarship to the school.

We also know that as soon as NIL became legal, several players became millionaires and now there's the report of a good, but certainly not generational, QB getting $4M / yr at Duke, which is nowhere near a football powerhouse.

It's obvious the players are valued more than "all the money spent on them" because teams have been and are FREELY OFFERING a lot of money for their services.

Actually the school is under no obligation to take them back. I would suspect their current NIL would be voided when they went in the portal also. Most players that enter the portal never find better situations.

But yet they keep entering the portal because they have someone in their ear telling them what they "may" be able to get. Kids at that age are very easily influenced.

most of the time, the somebody in their ear has already been talking with someone about what they could get from school X. Long before portal even opens.

Agents are not working for those guys. They only work for the guys who are in demand by many schools. The rest get a split NIL from general funds. It all started with a player getting paid if his image or name was used and it took 2 years to get to pro style money.

Just saying you can try to negotiate up and end up negotiating down.
