Players possibly not liking Kelsey Pope?

He came here from Gardner Webb and TNTech before that. He does not have much of a track record other than Hyatt and Tillman. Maybe he is not very good. Maybe he is. These athletes get a lot of coaching nowadays before college from highly qualified and skilled people, and sometimes it is really discouraging when your club or even HS coach is better than your college position coach. It happens often. Might not be the case here. Maybe it’s sour grapes. Maybe the guy has no personality. Maybe the guy demands more than they are willing to give

*clarifying that he did not recruit Tillman or Hyatt.

Heupel and Pope inherited Hyatt and Tillman.

None of Pope's wide receiver recruits have seen a lot of snaps.

I think that Pope gets the 2025 season to prove himself as an elite position coach.

This is just something I stumbled upon on Twitter. Take it with a grain of salt but it's looks like a conversation with former WR Nate Spillman on why everyone is leaving/left.

Be prepared for the usual suspects “they just sucked/didn’t need them anyway” and stick their fingers in their ears…

I think so too. His recruits have been underwhelming in performance and opportunity. They don’t see the field and end up leaving. Worse is that players talk, and if the Pope well is poisoned, he is just in the way. But most players that leave don’t say good things, so I take everything they say with a grain of salt. My eyes tell me the coaching is bad though. I have never seen so many guys on offense allow themselves to be pushed into the sidelines. We can’t stack to save our lives.

Where’s Spillman headed? He’s been in the portal since Dec 12th and no news. Webb is at Maryland and Leacock was at 3-9 Stanford this weekend. Better programs aren’t getting these players that are chirping.

I mean Heupel will have to evaluate and figure it out. Is this true? Is it message board BS? Is Pope performing up to where he needs to recruiting and coaching?

I do think it’s concerning when a huge portion of a position group leaves.
.
Remember the entire secondary left last year and it turned out ok.

Weren’t a lot of those guys Pruitt holdovers or recruits? Not disputing it turned out ok, just seems that Heupel and Banks had enough of the unit and had a plan in place.

Could that be the case here? Maybe. Hopefully. I’m just not seeing it yet.

When folks are leaving it starts to smell like smoke.
