These players are holding schools hostage.

They are discussing this on 104.5FM in Nashville right now with Ramon Foster. Buying a freshman jersey that may not stick around as a sophomore is risky. Buy a senior's jersey like Bru.

Caving to these players are a bad precedent for a university. This happened with Jonas Aidoo seemingly every year and then the guy still transfers as a senior.

Who is making the collectives pay these prices? Who is making the schools negotiate new deals?

Can the collective say no? Yes, and they do.
Can the school say "See ya..." Yes, and they do.

The schools are choosing to negotiate. The schools helped create this by suing the NCAA every time they tried to rein in transfers or NIL.

Why do you have sympathy for the schools?

I agree with this, but basketball is different. The Bball fans are conditioned to the 1 and dones especially blue bloods even Vols have had their share. So a 1 year player in Bball can be more endearing like Dalton last year and Lanier this year.
In football you have a 11+ the oft used backups on O same on D and then you have KO teams & Punt teams. A lot of players to please in football and much harder to get your name out there and your NIL is harder to keep up and may be negotiated down. The player may not like it but if their real low end they may end out with nothing but a FCS partial scholarship. I read somewhere were 30% of the 1000s of portal guys failed to find a D1 team.

I think the Aidoo thing is working out pretty good for us right now.

The players have all the power, that is the problem. Then they add a talent tax to tickets, fans should be outraged about that. Paying more for the self centered players that probably will be gone by the next season .

I actually really like this rule.

UT (actually TN, the state) joined the WV lawsuit to create multiple transfers with no penalty.

UT threatened the NCAA and joined lawsuits to make NIL the "wild west" it is.

The school did this. Most players did nothing but abide by the rules the NCAA established. Yet you call them greedy and self centered. They didn't make these rules, UT helped make them and the NCAA makes them...... not the players.

The one's that gave the players all the power was the problem.

That's the multiple transfers with no penalty which the State of TN joined, almost certainly with the blessing of UT.

Or maybe the NIL lawsuit UT threatened over Nico's recruiting which helped lead to the NCAA basically walking away from policing NIL. We all cheered when Donde and Danny lit up the NCAA with Antitrust threats over NIL...... and here we are.

Place the blame where it belongs. That's all I ask. UT is neck deep in creating this chaos while the players are faced with rules and offers and a system that they had no part in creating.

Va Tech lost 22 players to the portal. Though they get paid the big bucks, I don't know how these coaches manage their sanity dealing w/ this nonsense. I'd imagine most HC's got into coaching b/c they love the game, love teaching/developing, impacting players lives and winning...and now they have to worry about being sued personally...who knows back story on this, but it could be entirely possible that FSU NIL collaborative backed out...can't imagine a coach would take a flier on this personally.

We're only in like step 2 of a 7 step process. NIL and transfer portal will not remain the wild wild west. The players will be deemed employees through Congress at some point and regulated as such. There will be a collective bargaining agreement drawn up that protects both employees and employers and we will have the minor league system in place for the Power 4 conferences. The group of 5 is who is in financial straits. They can't complete financially with the P4 programs and some of the ones in P4 will have to decide if they are in or out.

I make sure all my jerseys don't have anyone's name on the back.
My Ole #8, for example, bought a LONG time ago to honor back-to-back SEC-winning QB Andy Kelly, can now be worn in support of Nico Iamaleava.

Walker Merill is a prime example of this. He signed with his third team, Austin Peay, this month

Going forward I'm keeping my money in my pocket. The players don't have power over me or you if you don't let it dictate your life. Anyone that lives on a budget will make practical decisions about where they invest their money. For me it's not in paying unproven college players for me to have a hope and a dream that the team will have a good year.

Why don't high school players get paid next?

My extra money goes towards st.Jude and my church. I shoot down for a game once a year. Drop money on over priced water ,sodas. And nike clothing at the university. Can't justify paying for a player who's gonna take his ball and walk at the end of season.

Never really rooted for individual players. Always thought it was weird to be a grown man fanboying over 18-22 year olds that I didn’t know or was related to. It’s a little different if you are their age, I guess. Always want to see the team succeed, though.

A little off track from the OP, but just my thoughts.

I agree. However, their have been teams whose success I cared more about did to that players who were on the team. Last year's bball team is an example. You had humble and fun loving guys who represented the program well, many who have been here for years. The loss to Purdue was so much tougher because of how much I like the players and coaches. There have been teams (2011 football team) whose players made me care much less about losing.
