I mean we do need some safety depth....but the question is this. If we are taking a big shot for a WR why a slot guy? We return 2 scholarship WR's 3 if Matthews Stays. Brazell is an outside guy. Staley is slot. Matthews is both? So we are ok at slot with Jackson also likely projecting there also and if the rumors are true Boo is likely to get some snaps in the slot. We literally have no guys to fill the roles Thornton and Bru filled. The three freshman are all raw talent type guys one big lanky athletic guy in Smith and Slot guy in Jackson. I haven't been able to find much film on Dodson.. even though he played locally (Chattanooga) didn't hear much about him.

I just don't get this guy being the Priority WR we go after given the situation. The one thing we are likely fine with is slot as Staley, Brazell and Matthews could all play there if needed. We literally have 0 depth outside except for the freshmen and walkons.

Wonder if they plan on bulking someone up to handle what Bru did?

Branch is a playmaker. Period. We need that.

A playmaker that averages 10.7 per reception doesn't sound like his athleticism translates to production.
these guys just parrot they dont look at the guys actual production. Branch has made his biggest impact on returns.. as a freshman. As a receiver he has been okish.

Its not like he hasnt gotten the oportunities. 78 catches for 3 TD's and 800 yards does not blow the hair back. Maybve he got used weird? but 5 other WR's averaged more YPC and scored more TD's than him.. 4 of thosse guys got less targets than him and did more with them. He basically put up hurt scquirrel white numbers both years.

That was my point. You added better context. Fans know that we need help at WR and since this guy is (A) in the portal (B) highly rated coming out of high school our fans invent him being a good WR because they want it to be true. I am not sure he is much of a solution to our issue. He is a very athletic, track type of athlete that doesn't appear, up to this point, to be a great football player.

People assume that a 1st or second year player is automatically going to be prime Tyreek hill. I think Branch has shown continued improvement and should be viewed as the highest upside WR in the portal who could be an immediate impact player but that doesn’t make him Jaylin Hyatt.

he’s definitely someone I think would really help the team and we are pretty thin at slot without squirrel. Would love to have him and I think he has the opportunity to be dynamic especially with multiple years of eligibility even if he needs to work on a few things.

Something doesn't seem right with this. Maybe the Vols should target other players with more potential? He just hasn't really produced at a high level.

Agreed. He is a Talented but unproven slot WR and decent returner. We need a Proven outside WR or two. The brother was a backup safety and IIRC he's a box (SS) not a coverage guy. Last I checked we don't have a dearth of safeties that can fill the box we need coverage guys. SO both of these guys would be nice to have at the right price but not someone we should be going all in on. Them being a package deal is kind of problematic also because I bet they arent giving family discounts.

I really wanted kc conception or the wr from Georgia tech. Maybe they see something with him that I don’t. Obviously they know best what the needs are for the team. Whatever Josh wants I’m game for. He’s taken our program to a place I feared we would never get back to.
