That is so cool! What I would do to be able to stand a top Ayers Hall and take it all in!When I was a student, in the mid 70s, someone showed me a door on the top floor of Ayres Hall that led to a stairway to the top of the tower. It was locked, but you could open it with a butter knife. On many nice Spring days on weekends, I'd get up there with a friend and catch some rays and even study up there. A real hideway with a good view.
Later, when my sons were in school there. I found the door again, but for some reason, it had a nicer lock on it. Seeing a glimpse of the roof there brought back that memory.
It looks better in Orange and white anywayBoth Alabama and Kentucky had checker board end zones before the 1960’s.
But neither field used for those teams are active today. Alabama had checkerboards in the early 1960’s at Legion Field and Kentucky’s old Stoll Field had checkerboards since the 1930’s. It was replaced in the 1970’s and was no better than some high school stadiums at the time.
I have recurring nightmares that involve Ayers Hall.
Math class - freshman year - finals day, and I haven’t been to class all semester.
