If you look at the bigtens regular season record against the SEC its a lot more representative of the truth. With a lot of these bowl games its hard to gauge anything off them (outside of the playoffs) because half the teams are sitting out or in the portal. Teams like Bama and so forth kind of check out if they are not in the playoffs.Watching the rest of the SEC this bowl season and reminding myself, "Tenn was better than all of these fools."
And yes, I know the bowl games are even more meaningless now.
The playoff loss did not ruin the season. Our season was a major success and should give us momentum going in to the off-season. We should manage to get some portal talent.
I know our roster is nearly full already, but we should attract decent players for whichever position we might need.
The playoff loss was pivotal to show the WRs have been a liability for 2 seasons now. We had a few clutch receivers, but they were injured a lot. The kicker is I kept waiting to see one of the second string WRs step up and become the man, like Hyatt and Tillman both did. It never happened. Just a lot of passes hitting receivers in the hands, and then hitting the ground.
Our WRs do seem to be well-coached in blocking. That is something where our receivers were just awful the past decade, but since Heupel came to Knoxville, they are as good as any WR corps in the nation at blocking.
All I really heard was the goal was "make the playoffs" not necessary hearing winning one was the goal.Season was an absolute success, until the final game.
Sadly, all anyone (sports media, recruits, and other fan bases) will remember about this season will be is we got dirt stomped by OSU.
We're not at the step where we're the best of the conference so I don't really care about that atm. I care about being better than the SEC. '22 they were arguably #2 and this year was clearly #3 and would've been #2 had this not been the year Texas joined. You should feel worse, since the SEC has just made us look even more fraudulent.
I don’t think we were clearly the third best. I think we clearly benefited from the easiest schedule. We're not at the step where we're the best of the conference so I don't really care about that atm. I care about being better than the SEC. I hoped they would have been well coached in getting open and catching the football. The playoff loss did not ruin the season. Our season was a major success and should give us momentum going in to the off-season. We should manage to get some portal talent.

The Big 10 also makes more money, has a wealthier alumni base and a larger alumni base. With all these factors, I suspect the Big 10 will become the dominant conference in the near future because of NIL. They also have better TV deals. It’s become evident that the scales have tipped in the NIL/ unlimited transfer portal era and the Big10 is winning the argument for strongest conference top to bottom. Personally, I’m all in favor of parity in the sport again. Watching the same teams dominate for decades at a time; just isn’t fun.
Have to take it with a grain of salt most teams missing their best play makers. I mean how many guys getting drafted from the Big 10 vs the SECI believe the SEC is 1-4 against the Big 10 in the playoffs and bowls so far this year. I’m not saying that means anything, but it is a little funny since most of us including myself have been talking about how much better the SEC is than the Big 10.
