in the conference’s history including all sports? Thinking about all the years the SEC has been loaded in football, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, track & field, etc, but I’ll be darn seeing how deep hoops is this season with really good to great teams makes it hard to imagine any other sport ever being tougher across the board.

Thoughts?

This is the strongest I have seen a league in some time. I think there was one year where the Big12 was like this recently and then I remember awhile back when in the original Big East (back when they also had a football league) and they had a very dominating regular season but flopped hard in the tournament. Charles Barkeley was on CBS for the first time that year and came out trashing the Big East because "they didn't have talent." Everyone made fun of him for it but he ended up being right.

Baseball has had some ridiculous years, like when Ole Miss was only the last team in the field because they had so many quality conference losses, then they went and won it all. Even down years are incredibly strong.

But this was, by most measurements, the strongest nonconference slate any conference has ever had. So this should make for a fun year of conference play, so long as we are good.

I have been watching Vols bskb since Ernie/Bernie days.

The team this year is the best all around team that I can remember in all the years I've seen.
Does not mean it will go as far as others, but positions 1-5 aggregate is better than any.

ZZ impresses me and to me he is the best pg I have witnessed at UT for his overall play. Better
than CJ, Tony H, Darden, etc. Chaz is as good a shooter as I can remember, including Houston, Ellis, and
very close to Dalton (don't shoot me). Mashack is a silent contributor and very lethal.

I don't remember a better 6th man than Gainey. The versatility of Gainey and Milicic puts the team
on a scale of being the best in UT history. Philips has been a lifesaver for the moment.

That is all.

I think this is the toughest the conference, or any conference, has ever been in college basketball. But I hesitate to say it’s the toughest conference in any sport in the history of college athletics.

The SEC pretty regularly has 5-7 teams in the Top 10 in college baseball. Like, every year. It’s insane. And then the SEC tends to have half the field in Omaha every single year. I think in general most years in the SEC in baseball are tougher than this year in basketball, but it’s also hard to make a definitive determination till we see more from conference play and figure out how many of these teams are pretenders or contenders.

Lanier is more closer to perhaps best shooter at UT. And that’ was Chris Lofton

Basketball definitely and I think for the first time in a while the SEC is better/tougher in men's basketball than football. But baseball has been a beast for years now. I was shocked that TV was able to get Tennessee even competing so fast much less the best program.

There are likely going to be SEC teams with losing conference records making the NCAA's this season. It's funny that the national media is already starting with the Big 10 bias, though. they just can't help themselves.

You need to keep in mind the network affiliations of the football conferences.

The Big East of the mid-80’s might disagree with you. Three Final Four teams in ‘85.
